Important place in early days of Texas. Nice to see places such as this to tell the story of long ago. Not a big place but if passing b,y or staying at nearby state park well worth the time (less than an hour)
Just passed through on our way to Brenham. Very small historic site but worth the stop if you're in the area or live within 30 miles. I wouldn't drive very far just to see it though. There is the statue, a small obelisk, a visitor center and a replica log cabin. Spend 45 minutes there tops if you get a chance to chat with one of the volunteers. She was very sweet, had a lot to share and took us to the log cabin to give us more information and since we were the only visitors she showed my son how to make a printers hat. It's pretty neat to think about the history of Texas carried out in that very spot! My 10 yr old son did a presentation on Stephen F Austin at the end of last school year so he thought it was cool.
We bicycled from nearby Austin State Park to the historical site. Seveal monuments and markers, and some old buildings. One building houses a small but informative historical museum about the first Texans. Rich history. Worth the time to stop off of I-10 if you are interested in Texas history. Free, donations accepted.
