It s a nice place to learn about Roanoke, and the famous gangster that stay in that building when it was a hotel, it a little museum, but, it a must stop , and it's free and feel free to make a donation.
Two nice ladies answered all our questions. A nice stop just to see the inside of the building. It was built to look like the old station.
The Roanoke Visitor Center and Museum is located in the heart of Roanoke's renowned restaurant row. It is housed in the oldest structure in the downtown area, the restored former 1886 Silver Spur Saloon. The small museum houses collections of antique medicine bottles, vintage toasters, military uniforms and information about former local veterans, a beautiful handmade wedding dress and the story behind its creation, historic photographs and artifacts covering the history of the town of Roanoke, incorporated in 1881. The Manager and staff members of the center are very friendly and informative and will give you a number of handouts, including a great walking tour guide to historic downtown and the guide to "The unique Dining Capital of Texas ". Oak St. downtown is home to at least 10 restaurants, including Babe's Chicken House, Hard Eight Bar-B-Que, the Oak Street Pie & Candy Co., and other great places to eat. The Visitor Center is also a Texas State Travel information Center, with information on many destinations in Texas. Recommended as the first stop in town before admiring the historic buildings and homes and having a great lunch or dinner.
