...it was 420 and I wanted to get baked. So I turned off looking to score a dime bag when I saw the sign on the side of the road. All I found though was a really cool building dedicated to the history of the local community. A for sure must see. Sadly my visit came to a premature end when I asked the curator for a hook up and she called the police. Ok, all humor aside, go see if you have the time.
I look forward to going back there to visit and learning more about the heritage of the city
Located in Dime Box, Texas, north of Giddings, this long, one story building is dedicated to preserving the history and heritage of the town and it's people. The small museum is watched over by Mrs. Jean Blaha Davis, who is rightfully proud of her displays, gladly leading visitors through the museum, explaining many of the historic items and their place in the local German and Czech heritage. There are many interesting items in the museum, including clothing, personal items, furniture, and farm tools. There is also a genealogical research table with a number of useful books on local Czech and Lee County history. The town became nationally known in 1945 as the first town to have 100% participation in the March of Dimes Campaign, and the museum proudly displays the large metal mailbox sent to President Roosevelt with their contributions and later returned. A fun and fascinating side trip when traveling up US 77 or east of Austin.
