A great location to see the works of local artists, buy art and occasionally hear some live music. Be sure to ask about the local classes that are offered by artisans.
Well worth stopping by. Lots of variety. Owner, Marcy, is very nice and helpful. It certainly has more to offer than the outside shows.
We stopped in and a gentleman was playing his instrument and singing. We saw pretty art work and bought a few pieces. The lady was very nice and informative.
What a wonderful surprise! I had picked out a piece of turned wood to buy that was on display and for sale at the Hi Neighbor restaurant. Our server said that she would call the shop owner, Marcy, where it was consigned so that she could come to the restaurant for me to pay for the piece. Marcy met me at Hi Neighbor, took the piece to wrap at her shop, and we stopped by to pick it up (not even a block away). Marcy was welcoming and hospitable, told us about the various artists and history of the buildings (the main shop was a small colonial home where the downstairs and summer kitchen have been turned into sale displays for Shenandoah artists, artisans, and craftsmen; the upstairs of both buildings are residences). Grandchildren ages 7 and 9 were with us and she INVITED them to touch various pieces in the shops and told them about how different things were made. Prices for many pieces were quite reasonable so I not only left with a lovely handmade lathe-turned wood bowl but also a very nice memory of going to Shenandoah Valley Artworks and talking with Marcy. I look forward to going back again when I'm visiting the area.
If you travel through the Shenandoah Valley and you love art, be sure to stop in and see the friendly folks at Shenandoah Valley Artworks. What used to be called King Street Artworks is a gem of a gallery in Strasburg, hosting live music and exhibiting some of the most breathtaking hand-crafted items in the local area - there is something here for almost everyone to appreciate! The owner is an instant friend to all who enter, and she displays with pride and enthusiasm many exquisite wood and pottery items for the kitchen and elsewhere, stained glass items, paintings and photographs of and inspired by the local area, auditory delights of the area and much, MUCH more! It is definitely worth the trip!
Thank you so much for such a nice review. We recently tallied the Zipcodes from our receipts and found that we've had visitors from 27 states and at least 6 countries. That means that we get to meet new people and enjoy new topics of conversation each day. So for us, being here for tourists and locals means each day is interesting and exciting. What better place to work than surrounded by art and nice people. Thanks again for stopping in.
This artists gallery has an outstanding cross-section of the wonderful talent found in the Shenandoah Valley. Marcy McCann is a gracious and enthusiastic owner who makes a visit even more special. You are encouraged to come in and look and it is well worth your time. You will be impressed by the beautiful variety of artwork on display.
We discovered the beautiful town of Strasburg as we traveled around the Shenandoah Valley. The downtown is alive with art in windows and clearly there's a love of and commitment to art here. As we strolled King Street downtown, we stopped at the Shenandoah Valley Artworks. The shop is full of a variety of art - paintings, pottery, jewelry, etc. - by local artists. The people were friendly and welcoming - a delightful and memorable experience!
Since first setting foot into Shenandoah Valley Artworks I've made it a point to visit again when in Strasburg on business. Marcy McCann always greets you warmly and takes you upon a tour of what's new in addition to sharing who is coming to the gallery. Did you know they have layaway? I mean seriously, layaway for art!!! Who does that?!?! Marcy does! Best part of visiting is the mixed media. You can find jewelry there, pottery, paintings, pen and ink, turned and carved wood. So yes, if you live there, go. If you're visiting, go. You won't be disappointed.
If you are planning a trip to the Shenandoah Valley, there are two places in Strasburg, VA that deserve extra attention. One is an art gallery featuring beautiful works of art and stunning wall-sized giclee prints. Named LtdPrints, it sells and will create specialized custom works of art for home or office. Marcy McCann is wonderful to work with and very open to suggestions. While there, cross the street and eat the wonderfully eclectic food offerings at Jalisco Mexican restaurant. Don't be put off by the tag Mexican. The food is unusual and unusually good. The restaurant is so popular that there is often a long wait, and that would be the perfect time to visit Marcy and view her gorgeous collection of art for sale.
Historic building on the outside, wonderful collection of art and artisan crafts on the inside in a wide variety of media. The Shenandoah Valley Artworks has a genial proprietor who can tell you anything you might want to know about the artists who display there, and there are many of them. A favorite of ours is the pottery of local artist, K. D. Haun’s porcelain. If you’re looking for a good lunch, you only have to cross the street to “Christinas”. Not far off I-81, we stop in whenever we’re in the area.
While visiting quaint and historic Strasburg Sunday afternoon, we stopped into an intriguing shop, Shenandoah Valley Artworks. We were warmly welcomed by proprietor Marcy McCann who introduced us to beautiful works from local artists. We found a wide array of beautifully crafted wood and pottery as well as wonderful photography and paintings. The lovely old building that houses all of this and the live music made for a great Sunday afternoon. I recommend a visit to Strasburg and the Shenandoah Valley Artworks!
My family and I are split between Baltimore, MD, and Roanoke, VA. For holidays we frequently meet in Strausburg, VA, as an in between city. We always eat at Cristina's Cafe and then can't help but stop in Shenandoah Valley Artworks. The shop has art for all tastes and for many different utilities. Everyone in the family always finds something they can't live without. Even if you are not an avid art collector the shop is in a house that is beautifully decorated, and the art blends into the living areas. There are earrings, pens, vases, paintings, scarves, books, house warming presents, etc. If you have any occasion you want to find a unique and memorable gift for this is the place to go! The shopkeeper is always so friendly and interesting to speak with about the art. If you are in the area, whether you are stopping through to get gas or on a family outing I would definitely stop by for a walk around the store!
When it already seems that there is not much to see on the West King Street (well, not that there is MUCH to see in any US town :), we found ourselves in a very lively shop with a number of visitors and with a very friendly shop-keeper. The art for sale was rather intreresting as well, mostly from local artist, a number of them with an European background. The shop was also selling books written by locals (ranging from Afganistan-related editions to bike travel guides), and souvernirs. In short, just by visiting the place you can get a nice overview on the surrounding life. And some discount coupons, good for neighboring businesses...
Thanks Larry, The West end of the Arts and Tourism District truly is being recognized as the hip end because we feature music at several locations during the week and all weekend long. One of my favorite things is having someone walk into the shop with a guitar or keyboard so they can sit in the corner and play. Our doors are always open to people who want to hang out for a while to play. It truly warms my heart to hear the musicians just chatting and figuring our a tune among themselves. Who knows what life will bring if we just let it? Music and art are surly a universal language and I'm so happy to be surrounded by so many who are longing to share.
