We visited the Fox Meadow Winery on a recent Saturday afternoon. The drive up the mountain to Fox Meadow was made well worth it by the winery's view and the service provided at the tasting bar by Amanda, one of the servers. The tasting fee of $7.50 provided us with samples of six wines and three small food pairings. All of the wines were quite drinkable and we really enjoyed the 2013 Barrel Fermented Chardonnay and the 2011 Reserve Cabernet Franc. One of the cheeses included with the tasting, a Tuscan cheddar, was excellent. All thru the tasting, Amanda was willing to answer our questions about the winery and its wines and provide some insight into workings of the local wine industry. After the tasting, we purchased two glasses of wine to enjoy on the enclosed portion of the deck. We will definitely return to Fox Meadow the next time we go wine tasting in the area.
Despite the beautiful views and well made wines you should strongly consider going elsewhere (to another area winery like Linden or Naked Mountain) where the owners and staff have customer friendly policies and attitudes. The number of rules that Fox Meadow has (such as no food or drink - even water bottles - may be brought onto the property; no groups, etc) are staggering and their zealousness in enforcement is mindblowing. Whatever you do, be sure to avoid joining their club without thoroughly reading ALL of the fine print as they will force you to incur inconvenient purchases and shipping costs despite their marketing talk that makes it sound almost non-committal (since you pay a $25 annual NON-REFUNDABLE UNDER ALL CIRCUMSTANCES fee to join). We would recommend avoiding this place and go elsewhere.
We stopped at Fox Meadow Winery as part of a fall foliage drive in October. The view was outstanding as were the fall colors. We could see about 4 lines of mountains in the distance from the deck. Enjoyed a low key tasting and then sat on the deck enjoying the beautiful fall weather and a nice glass of wine. We were there in the middle of the week when it was slow so can not comment how it would be during a busy weekend.
The wine is among the best in Northern Virginia. The staff is friendly and the wrap-around deck provides plenty of outdoor seating to enjoy the spectacular mountain views.
I have visited Fox Meadow twice now. Both times, I have been happy with the service and wines. Some of our favorite wines are the Freezeland Red and Freezland White. The Blue Mountain Mist is also a nice sipping wine. They have a spectacular view overlooking the mountains and vineyards. It's very peaceful and serene.
The winery, wines and the views are pretty enough. BUT, consider that the owners' policies (through their operations chief) are hostile generally to consumers, (especially their best ones, members of their wine club); they misrepresent things; and are not willing make amends for their mistakes/misrepresentations, except at continued customer expense. There are much friendlier places to go. AVOID, and especially avoid joining their wine club and its hidden conditions and terms! I was a former club member, but have cancelled my membership and vow not only to never return, but to never buy another bottle (despite them being very good) in protest to their unfriendly treatment of customers. Keep it up Fox Meadow and you will have NO CUSTOMERS and will be able to drink plenty of unsold inventory to drown out your sorrows! Don't take my word for it, read other comments below. (I should have read these other Yelp postings ahead of time. If so, I would have know better)!
It was all good and the friendly people are the reason to go........................................................................
Fox Meadow is a wonderful, small, comfortable winery high on a “mountain” (or ridge) in Linden, Virginia. On entering the establishment we were immediately greeted by a member of the staff and found ourselves participating in a wine tasting within minutes. There were five or six wines as part of the tasting, two or three with food pairings, and a bonus wine. All wines were excellent, and came with an explanation from our hostess of that particular wine’s history. The explanation was brief, but questions were welcome. At the conclusion of tastings you can order a glass or bottle of wine if interested, and enjoy the outstanding views from inside the facility or outside on the deck. A wine tasting at Fox Meadow winery is a delightful way to spend an hour or two any afternoon! It’s not just the wine, which is great, but the total experience of wine, information, friendly and helpful staff, and view. Well worth your time!
This is a smaller winery than some others but it is really nice. During the tasting they give you 3 whites and 3 reds. Some of them are paired with food, some aren't. I must say I enjoyed all of their wine even though it is a limited selection. The Freezeland White is a very good, sweet white wine and a red that is comparable but a little less sweet is their Chambercin. I highly recommend both. You get a discount on the wines if you do the tasting. They have live music playing on some Saturdays and on a gorgeous day on their beautiful back deck, it's a perfect way to spend the day. The owner is a really friendly man who is incredibly knowledgeable about not only the wine they have there but all wines in general. They offer light fare such as cheeses and meats and on Saturdays they have hot baguettes too but you are allowed to bring your own food and enjoy it there with their wine which is what we did the second time we went. It was a great experience and a really nice way to spend a sunny spring day. The back deck is pretty large with lots of seating and in the field they have a few picnic tables. We went on Fri AND Saturday and it was never too crowded, especially Friday and even though Saturday held a lot of people, you could easily find a place to sit and enjoy yourself.
The drive up the hill from I66 to Fox Meadow Winery was interesting and slightly steep, but the views from the top were amazing! The back deck at this winery has some amazing views of many rows of mountain ranges! Definitely can't wait to go back on a nicer day to enjoy their nice wines from the deck! They don't have a chardonnay, their dry white is a pinot grigio, with their pinot gris being slightly sweeter. Their reds are nice. Tasting is a great way to experience their wines as well as a small pairing of treats that go well with them.Staff is very friendly.
The vineyard is a little off the beaten path (literally off a beaten path) but once you arrive it is gorgeous. The wine selection was limited but tasty. We enjoyed a mulled wine on the outdoor patio and watched the sun set. Very relaxing and nice staff.
Stopped by for a wine tasting. Staff pleasant, selections minimal. Had to stand the entire time for the tasting...would have been nice to have seating, take off your coats and relax. Tasting was rushed.
We did not care for the wines at this location. Theres a wine for everyone but Fox Meadow did not have one that we enjoyed.
There is an outside deck where you have a wonderful view of the mountains. Pair that with friendly service and nice wines and you have Fox Meadow. We tasted whites and reds. Some of the wines were paired with cheese and nuts. We had a glass of meritage, a baguette, and cheese after our tasting. We sat on the deck overlooking the beautiful mountains. This winery is very peaceful. It is now one of our favorites.
