Seeing wildlife of the area that have become ambassador's because after rehabilitation they cannot be released.
We attended a special viewing of the documentary "Gasland 2" at Earthplace. It was the first time that we ever heard of this wonderful natural spot in Westport. The programs they present focus on the environment and nature. The one we attended holds a special interest for us. We entered into the building and saw one of the most beautiful tributes to nature in the wonderful tiles that told the story of birds, butterflies and animals in this area! I only wish I had had my camera! As I spoke with the individuals I met here; they told us about the programs for families and children, the 62 acre nature trails, the animals they have rescued and the programs involving them...They have a nursery school, summer camp, a natural history museum, a Harbor Watch Program, a toy and science store and so much more! You can walk their trails at no cost from dawn to dusk but there is a membership fee for the special programs. This is a terrific resource for families and anyone who loves nature. We will definitely be using this facility in the future!
Earthplace is just a great place to drop into for a weekend hike coupled with some lessons on nature. The indoor space is really good for younger kids - and the trails outside are perfect for burning off a little energy!
We are privileged to have this wonderful place around the corner from our home. A little getaway from the daily routine and nice paths to walk on to visit nature and animals. We have also acquired their help with injured wildlife in the past. Nice walk to and through their trails many times.Recommended for everyone!
Animals and great play areas and exhibits. Also, a playground and decent hiking trails. Perfect for kids!
Great facility for westport and neighboring towns. Changing exhibits, natures trails, great summer camps after after school activites
So impressed that Earthplace has 62 acres of open space and 2 miles of lovely walking trails. We loved seeing the birds of prey that are part of the permanent collection of injured birds. On the weekends it has a great playground for young children as well.
Kids love the animal rescue enclosures, the playground, and the great activities and displays in the main building. But the best regenerative thing you can do is take a nice little hike through the woods.
The animals are well cared for, the volunteers knowledgeable, and the programs are excellent. My daughter's Girl Scout troop identified the trees on one of the trails, complete with markers and descriptions on the map.
Interesting place to take children to learn about another side of nature.
The kids just beg to go back here...its close, has lots to do, and is easy for them to maneuver! Such a pretty setting and educational, too! What could be better than that?
nice little spot for a hike through the woods and view of birds of prey, nothing spectacular, but certainly a nice way to spend a morning or afternoon
Love walking the trails and seeing the big birds. Playground is great too (enclosed). No potty. Good weekend outing for a few hours.
A great place to bring kids. Many things to do and great programs offered year round. Visit the website
Formerly called, in my opinion more appropriately, Westport Nature Center, it has an indoor nature "museum" and paths through nature.
