When the CT Spring season signals the annual return of The Westport Farmer's Market every Thursday to the Imperial Avenue Parking Lot, it also signals to me the start of my own, individually refreshing and sustaining experience My enjoyment continues throughout the Summer and Fall seasons as well. This happens because I am able to eat an incredible wealth of locally grown vegetables. It doesn't get any better. The WFM vendors are a solid good group of people, whose products are presented well, and who are willing to have a discussion with you: friendly, knowledgable and conversant. My only advice: pace yourself and thoroughly enjoy this visit to WFM.
I have loved the Westport Farmer's Market for years! I love the winter market as well - not many of those around and the vendors are great. I discovered Raus Coffee at the last market of the winter and wish I'd tried him out sooner! Looking forward to when the reopen in the summer!
For some years, Westport has been having a Farmers' Market on Thursdays, in the Commuter Parking Lot on Imperial Avenue. It started quite small, but has been steadily growing until it is now the largest market in the area. It moves to a different location in the Winter, but it's basically year-round.There's plenty of choice.Several local farms bring an array of produce - seasonal fruit and vegetables, fresh eggs, cheeses and meat.A local fishery has a stall featuring fish from Point Judith (I think). Their smoked blue fish is superb.Several bakeries make an appearance, notably Sono Bakery. We usually pick up a couple of fruit tarts, to eat with our afternoon tea. There are people selling honey, maple syrup, soap, flowers, coffee - the list changes every week.Add to this the regular appearance of Skinny Pine Pizza (who make delicious pizzas on demand, in a mobile brick oven) and you have a recipe for a very pleasant hour or so before lunch (pizza, of course)Just one word of warning. If you think of farmers' markets as somewhere to buy cheap produce, don't forget that this is Fairfield County - some of the prices are just a tad enthusiastic. The quality, though, is excellent, and, of course, everything is mind-bogglingly fresh.Well worth visiting.
