We're in the area for 3 months and try to hike a trail everyday. Lately we have had a ton of snow so the trails around the area (including Macedonia State Park) are currently buried but the main road through this park is always well plowed and there is very little car traffic, the road has a beautiful brook running alongside it so it still has the feeling of hiking on a trail. I also am able to use this road for a good run. You can see how well the park is maintained - love this place!!!
Loved spending the day hiking and exploring in this park. Only complaint is that the ranger station was closed so we had no maps to guide us. We tried to download the mobile map app advertised at the ranger station but there was no wi-fi/3G/4G access. Finally, we flagged down a friendly camper and he gave us his map.
We really enjoyed hiking in this park. It wasn't crowded, the trails were well marked, and the trails were well maintained. The staff were present, making it feel safe. It was a great outing! Dogs loved it too!
My husband and I took our two young girls tenting at Macendonia this weekend. We really enjoyed it. The park was very clean, the campsites very well maintained. Convenient pit toilets, access to a pump, good fire pits. Many of the sites are along the creek, making it very picturesque. I saw a lot of bad comments about this park on other Web sites, mainly related to harassing park staff and the alcohol prohibition, but we certainly did not experience any of that. A park staffer did cruise the camp sites via truck at dinner time, but didn't interact in any way with more than a friendly wave. Maybe it would have been different if someone had been "out of hand," and in that case it's nice to know that they were around and vigilant if needed. The hiking was pretty good, although a portion of the blue trail along the creek was being left to grow in (really disappointing) and other trails were not ideally maintained. However, I put that down to the Sequestor and hope that funding returns to the park service soon. We still really enjoyed it and will be back.
It is a quiet state park if you want to escape from the city for just few days. There are around 50 camp sites and we stayed @ site #44 for one night. It was flat but with some rocks, not as good as site #31-- 40 based on what we saw. The pit toilet was right beside our site and please note there was no water in it ~~Besides we kinda disappointed when we found out there was no shower in the camp ground. We hiked part of the blue trail in the park, it was rocky and fun. The view was not as good as what we thought though. Anyway we still enjoyed our trip because we had HOTPOT in the site, which was GREAT!
