Right downtown historic Vicksburg on a hill above the Mississippi. Weather beaten and showing its civil war built days but what a surprise inside. This place is FULL of history, local and more. Nice college age young man met me as I entered. 5 dollar fee to tour. He answered several questions for me about the place. The old courtroom is up stairs and is straight out of Gone with the Wind, really awesome, wrought iron everywhere. Piles and piles of history crammed into this building. Nice small gift room where you could even buy some civil war relics. Worth the stop

We thoroughly enjoyed this museum. It was well thought out and laid out. The artifacts were plentiful and everything was clean. Well done!

My husband and I have been travelling the country the last two years and I have to say this was one of my favorite museums. It's beautifully preserved and it's packed full of civil war relics and antiques. They have a gift shop where you can buy some of the civil war relics and artwork. The court room is just beautiful. The whole architecture of the building is memorizing. I could picture being there in the 1800's. It's definitely worth much more than the $5 it cost to get in. Also the people that work there are not your typical stuffy old museum workers, they are very friendly and really take pride in their Court House Museum.

several floors down and 3/4 upstairs. one room dedicated to Confederate history and the siege of Vicksburg, as well as other displays artifacts from the "War Between the States" (as it's called here).there are art, pottery, furniture displays and costumes, books all of the MS region. also lots of info. re: Jefferson Davis.gift shop has true artifacts for sale (bullets, pottery shards, old money, etc.)plan on 2 hours to see it all. very enlightening. happy trails.

While this museum's displays are old school, there is really a lot really cool historic artifacts on display. Especially neat is the upper floor where Union prisoners were kept in order to keep their forces from firing on the courthouse during the siege. Take an hour and learn something about Vicksburg from a southern perspective rather than the Unionist perspective of the National Military Park.

this is a very nice museum, taking up two floors of a historic building, including an original courtroom. a large variety of interesting exhibits, and friendly people who are happy to answer any question you may have. very reasonable entrance fee, and donations accepted.

We love museums and this was all encompassing for the time period of the Civil War. Its displays complimented what we saw at the military park - housing, clothing, ammunition, flags, photos, etc. It's beautifully set up - wrought iron stairs and railing, wooden floors - and easy to get around in. Staff is very helpful; another 'don't miss' when you're in Vicksburg.

Only $5 per person to visit this great museum with a great gift shop with authentic relics. This museum is located in a beautiful building that was built by skilled slave labor. Definitely for the history buff and worth the time!

The courthouse, built before the War Between The States, stands on a hill, dominating Vicksburg's skyline. It is now a museum, and one which is very well done.

This courthouse survived the bombing of Vicksburg and holds numerous items inside of the war time including Grant's chair from the Battlefield. There is also a room of female clothing, including bridal gowns, day clothes etc. which are incredible in how they were made. Lots of reading here for history fans, allow about 2 hours +, $5 ticket to get in.

Just seeing the courthouse from the outside is worth the visit. It is architecturally beautiful. Inside is a historians dream with rooms covering different aspects of history. There are portraits, clothes, furniture and fine china from the antebellum period. The original courtroom has been restored and has spectacular views. Presidents Teddy Roosevelt and William McKinley spoke there as did Jefferson Davis and Booker T. Washington. The trophy on by the steamboat Robert E. Lee from its famous 1870 race on the Mississippi River can be seen as well as historic toys, pioneer implements and Native American artifacts. This has to be one of the prettiest and most historic courthouses in the country.

Loved visiting the courthouse. The different displays, from the courtroom itself, to rooms with attire people wore then , to a library, etc.

The museum is set up by "rooms" - the Confederate Room, Pioneer Room, Vicksburg Room, etc. It's a nice touch that keeps you oriented as you tour the museum. The displays are very well-done; artifacts are excellent. Be sure to go up the stairs to the old courtroom where so much history occurred. This is a "must" when in Vicksburg.
