This park is quite large, over 200 sites. Most sites have pads and are nicely spaced apart from other sites. The sites from 150-200 or so have gravel pads and no picnic tables. They are full hookups though! The park personnel are there but working hard in the background. There is a bathhouse on almost every circle and they are all very clean and everything is in working order. The park store and game room were never open while we were there but it was not something we would use! Being winter all the water attractions were closed! There are sites right across the road from the beach but they do not have sewer, they are a bit closer together but the view is amazing. The beach is a 5-10 minute walk from the sites in the park and there are miles of sidewalk and beach fronts to enjoy. Be careful if you are coming in and your camper/vehicles have low clearance as the railroad tracks are very high and may catch your landing gear. Use Lakeshore Blvd from Hwy 90 and come down to South Beach Blvd, it takes you directly past the park and is safe for your RV. Or take Hwy 90 to the opposite end of South Beach Blvd and come in that way. Speed is 25mph on South Beach so be careful as it is patrolled. Park has Frisbee golf and a great playground just outside the entrance. Laundry is good but the dryers are horrible, took forever to dry clothes. Don't use High Tide Laundry in Waveland as only three dryers in the whole place works and it hasn't been cleaned in there in years. Couple of casinos, one about two miles away and another about 5 or 6. No fire rings but no problem with creating a little burning area as ground is mainly sandy! Great Stay!

At checkin there is no mention that some camping sites are close to railroad, hard to get a good nights sleep with train horn blaring. Also beware as the park must be using well water, the rotten egg smell is bad. I came out of shower smelling worse than when i went in.

We are full-time RVers so we love finding a safe, affordable place to stay along the Gulf Shore. Buccaneer was re-built after the last hurricane so all of the bath houses are brand new. All sites have sewer hookups (very unusual in a state park). The campground is walking distance...or a short drive to the beach, plus there is a beautiful swimming pool in the campground. There is also a water park very near. $24.00 a night for a premium site.

My husband and I stayed in this state park from November 16th to December 23rd. We were only going to stay two weeks then extended it to five and that says it all. If you stay 20 days at full price the next 10 are free! It has full hookups, the sites are enormous, the staff is friendly and, best of all, it is a short walk to the bay. Cheers to everyone who give reviews, we really appreciate it!

My family (we have three teenage kids) spent five days in Buccaneer. We had site 138 in Treasure Cove loop and it was a perfect location for us-shaded and a quieter loop than the others - Jean Lafitte, Pirates Cove, Barataria Bay and Long John Silver loops were full of young families with kids all over the place having fun on bicycles, running around- very crazy. The park location was great and centrally located for day trips to New Orleans, Swamp Tours, Oak Alley Plantation, Gulfport/Biloxi and more. The best part is the park is right next to the beach - which is absolutely beautiful and clean!! The beach basically runs from the campground entrance all the way to Biloxi. When the tide goes out you can easily walk about 200 yards out in shallow water of the Gulf- my kids loved this... ADVICE - use Google Earth to pick a site and you will be very happy you stayed at Buccaneer

This was our 1st visit to this park, actually any park in Mississippi. Our parking pad had an 8" drop off from the pad to the ground on the side with the door. We have 3 steps on our RV and the bottom one was 16" off the ground when we lowered them. (Had to go buy a small step stool). This distance was also just enough that our folding step stool that my husband uses to attached the support brace on our electric awning was not tall enough...had to go buy a taller one. We have a high-end sewer hook-up system with a 90 degree dump valve which we have used at campgrounds everywhere... but not here. Their hook-up is in a concrete mound like contraption at about a 30 degree angle so ours would not fit. (Had to go buy another type hook-up) The grill was so close to the parking pad that when we let out awning out the grill was under the corner. After a trip to Walmart to purchase items to rectify these problems we decided to go to the pool. That's when we really had a shock.....you have to pay to swim. We had our 4 grandsons so it was right at $25.....that is every day!!! My husband and I were not going to swim but they still require you to pay. As my husband was handing the "state employee" the money I just happen to ask what time the pool closed and he said 6:00....it was 5:30. Can you believe that....HE WAS ACTUALLY TAKING OUR $25 KNOWING THE POOL CLOSED IN 30 MINUTES. It closes at 6:00 everyday, so you can't go visit nearby attractions, come back and grill burgers then take the kids to the pool. This is the Gulf Coast....it doesn't get dark until 8:00. Most campgrounds we have visited have their pools open until 9:00. This park was unlike anything we have ever experienced.....and not in a good way. The park had tons of people on golf carts, which is fine if it is controlled, these were not. People were flying on them. The park is not well lit after dark and therefore dangerous if you are trying to walk around the area. We saw several near misses and a lot of angry campers. The ONLY positive thing I can say is they do have their check-in process designed very well. However, that is not enough to make us ever go again. I can't comment about the water park because we did not visit it. We did hear mostly negative remarks from our camping neighbors so I'm glad we didn't spend $102 on another disappointment.

We drove down for a day at the beach, (minus the sand). The waterpark was small but very nice and had great views of the gulf. The facilities were great, air conditioned bathrooms, the changing area was just an open area, but there were plenty of stalls. The wavepool was big enough to handle the crowd. We were there when it opened and it didn't really get crowded till after lunch which was when we were ready to leave anyway. plenty of shaded areas! The snack bar was convenient and reasonable. My family and I enjoyed our day.

The cleaning staff at this park should be fired! I just returned from a week long stay at the park and was very disappointed. The women's shower house is gross. There is a sheet hanging on the door that shows several cleanings per day, but the same ponytail holders, clumps of hair, and piles of sand that were present on my 1st day were there on my last. I saw a cleaning person go in for 3 minutes and when he left, the shower house smelled strongly of cleaning liquid, but nothing was clean. I'm almost positive he threw liquid cleaner on the floor and left. There was never soap at the sinks, and the outlets didn't work. The trash can at our campsite was overflowing several times. The park is not well lit at night. 3 times I tried to buy ice, and they were out. They charge campers for the small, shallow pool. And the beaches in Waveland are full of trash. Spend the extra time in the car and drive to Florida State Parks.

We brought our kids for the first time here to show them how a water park would be and it was Awesome the bomb!!!!It helped to show the small ones if they like waterskides and heights...Then in the wave pool that they can handle hard waves and they loved being on the ground not so much the slides!!!! Did not waste a lot of money very affordable to see what they enjoy will be back many times thanks!!!!

We stayed Sunday night 7-20-14 in the gulf front part of the park. The park is clean and well maintained. The bathroom / showers were also nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. There is a RV dump station at the office. If you stay in the water front part of the park be prepared for a hike to the bathrooms. There are no bathrooms or showers in that section of the park. The beach was not very big and when we got there at low tide it was not very nice and trash was on the beach and in the water. The water park is a separate charge and the pool inside the actual campground also has a separate charge of $5.00. The campsite was also expensive at almost $40.00.I noted that several families were riding around in nice golf carts through the park. I did not see any atv or other type of off road vehicles. If I was going to be in the area I would stay again, but I would not make a special trip to stay in Buccaneer State Park.

The wave pool is awesome and the slides are fun. Good price. This place is big, new, and very clean. The kids and adults had a blast.

we took our three young grandchildren there in JULY 2014 for 2 nights and 3 days. The bathhouses were black with mold. The kids in the park almost ran over my 2 yr. old granddaughter twice with their bikes, they were riding as fast as they could and no one was stopping them. The water park is to expensive. The only thing our 7 yr. old grandson could do was the wave pool. He was 1 inch to short to do the slides. He was very disappointed and me to. Warning if you have an out of state tag Waveland's 'finest' will try to make you leave all of your hard earned money in 'Waveland'.

We camped for 3 nights at site #129 in the Treasure Cove section of Buccaneer State Park. We were very pleased because there were trees around us and my daughter had room for 2 hammocks. Although there were many campers, we still had privacy because of the bushes and trees. The bath house was nice and clean each night that we showered. This is a very nice place to camp!

We would never stay there again. Our sight 142 had something overflowing on it. there fix was to dig a ditch and leave the dirt on the parking pad.
