The giant cypress trees at the Boardwalk at Sky Lake are definitely worth a side trip, if you're driving down I-55 between Memphis, TN and Jackson, MS. It's a nicely shaded walk on a long (1,734 feet) walkway that is elevated about twelve feet above the shallow swamp below. No more than fifty feet into the walk you come upon one of the larger cypress trees. The Boardwalk is home to the oldest (believed to be over 1,000 years old) and largest (46 feet in circumference) cypress trees in the world. There's a brand new bathroom facility off of the gravel parking lot, and it looks like they're building a visitor's center. About an hour and a half Northwest of Jackson, MS.

My wife and I went on a small road trip to see some sights in Mississippi and happened upon Sky Lake Preserve. We both like to take pictures of natural things and this place had some great photo opportunities. It is not a far walk on the boardwalk and there was some birds that we were able to see (not much wildlife in winter). There were also some plaques along the boardwalk and they were very informative in telling everything there is to know about cypress trees, the wetlands and the importance of them.

Mississippi Delta is one of the most unique places in the world. Mystical.

Just north of Belzoni off Highway 7 is one of the biggest bald cypress trees in the world. It's over 46 feet in circumference! Located at the Sky Lake Wildlife Management Area.
