Although Higbee is off the beaten path, it is worth the trip to Cooper's Oak. The family began making barrels for whiskey aging, and eventually opened their own winery. Good wines, friendly people, and a great short tour of a barrel-making facility.

What a great day we had, a bit of a drive but well worth every mile. We were greeted at 10 o'clock in the morning by Cletis the father, he showed us all over the Cooperage. We watched many of the steps in making a beautiful wine barrel, from the cutting of the wood to the toasting of the inside of the barrel, to the final production. We were then given a glass and ventured to the blending room downstairs which was an experience all in it's own. We got to do barrel tasting and they blended wine for us to taste. It was so much fun. We really liked several of their dry reds, so came home with a few bottles. This is a great family team that works very hard to give you a wonderful experience and make you feel very welcome! Stop by you won't be disappointed

My wife and I had coupons for Cooper's Oak. We were going to go to their Booneville location, but Higbee is on the way to our son's home in Huntsville, so we decided it would make a nice motorcycle ride, Higbee is sort of your typical rural Missouri small town. There just isn't much there, but the winery is like an oasis. The wine was pretty good, but you can get a better deal on their wine in local outlets in Columbia, MO.

It's a little place in Higbee, MO that produces some BIG flavorful wines. The Norton is our fave. They have a storefront in Boonville as well. The Higbee wine making location is fun to visit esp. when a visiting musician is there. Ask if the Kirbys can show you around the place. It's amazing what they have done with the Cooperage there. Worth the trip to this off-the-beaten-path gem.

If you're a party pooper, don't go here. The family that owns this winery is wonderful! They know wine after making barrels for California wineries for years. The dry wines are great, and the people are great. We always have such a good time here.

Another fun family owned winery in NE Missouri. The wines are good and the tasting room staff is friendly. They make both dry and sweet wines. Personally I'm more of a dry wine drinking. Their dry wines are made from both Missouri grown and grapes and California grown grapes. AK Cooperage which they also own is right next door. If you're lucky you can get a tour of it and learn how they make those wine barrels.
