We adore Stockton Lake. It has a beautiful shoreline and has many places to fish and walk. There is lodging, the town of Stockton with plenty of dining choices and also a marina at the State Park. Crappie, walleye, bass and catfish are the popular fish to catch and during the right time of year you can see eagles nesting and enjoying the lake as well!
We visited Labor Day weekend and were so impressed by this State Park. It is very well maintained. They offer all types of lodging and the marina has great sandwiches. There is no development around the lake. One can really enjoy nature and I'm told the fishing for crappie, walleye, bass and catfish is great. We plan to go back with a fishing guide when the weather cools a bit. The marina offers rental boats and jet skis. All this is only 1 hour from Springfield and about 2-1/2 hours from Kansas City.
Orleans Trail Resort - Restaurant is Excellent 1st choiceEnriques- good foodBongo's- food is good, glad to see back open. wait for food is a little long.Wood's supermarket- great store for small town
Enjoyed my ride around the lake. Really good place to sharpen my curve and turning skills. Great scenery. You will come across towns that you will question that they are towns. Overall, great ride, great scenery, lots of fun.
Great Place to swim but disliked the sand every where in the swimming area. Would much rather have rocks then sand especially with children. Nice area to grill and play.
Best Crappie and Walleye fishing in the Midwest! Great campgrounds on all sides of the lake. No private docks so lake is still clean. Fish are safe to eat!!!!
wonderful spot for a Lake side retreat, camping and a very clean lake to fish! A few local motels to stay, The mariana has rooms but not much in amenities.
If you want the more quiet slow paced lake this is it. It is so serene and peaceful. I love the little nooks that make it private.
I take my family here often during the summer. The water is clean, and with out a lot of people to fight with for space it makes it a wonderful place to spend the day.
I really enjoyed the relaxing feeling of nature and the things you can do. Boating, fishing, walking, and sitting in the sun or shade. I go there in summer and winter too. just Beautiful!!
Stockton Lake is really close to where I live and we do visit often. My kids like to swim at the beaches in the summer and my husband loves to fish for catfish in the coves. I dont care for swimming here because the water is not very clear. On a side note, it has been really low lately due to the drought conditions. However, the area is very pretty and some places are very well maintained which makes for nice camping.
Fun for the day or a week. Camping areas are clean and well maintaned, there is a fee per night. The public beaches are sand with easy access for everyone, a parking day fee is required. You can put your boat in for free and the lake is big enough to boat all day and still not see all of it. Fishing is great. I go as often as I can.
We visited Stockton lake to check it out for sailing. I've lived in this area and have visited once before. The lake and campgrounds are beautiful! We will definitely plan on sailing next summer.
Stockton Lake is a well-kept secret in SW Missouri - miles of shore line great for fishing; one of the top-10 sailing lakes, great hiking trails; lots of good camping sites.
My 8-yr-old son and I went to the citywide yard sales and he just had to go swimming that day so we went to the lake. We also visited the marina to feed the fish and ask directions to the beach.
