Free parking. Family pass for $28, what a deal!An unbelievable collection of masterpieces. I went for the Diego Rivera murals but was awestruck by everything. Even the building is something to see. We spent about 4 hours and didn't see everything. We will go again!
Have not been since I was a kid! Was a great time, I enjoyed all of the exhibits. Great variety of periods. Visited for free since I am a Wayne county resident, great perk.
The Diego Rivera mural is worth it alone but there are so many tremendous pieces of art here it is a must do in Detroit
This was only my second trip with my kids (7 and 9) and it seemed like the DIA really made the kids portions more fun. A booklet of activities, hands on activities, etc. we all had a great time - so much so that we bought the family membership and the kids are already asking when we'll go back again!
Went to DIA on a recent visit to Detroit and loved the place. It's a bright and airy museum with astonishing art. We spent a long time looking at the Diego Rivera mural and a wonderful volunteer (Barbara) provided us with personal tour of the mural. Don't miss the Bruegel Wedding Dance. Terrific place all around.
This is a world class museum and rivals those in New York, Washington and Paris. If you are in the area, don't miss it.
My husband and I were looking for something to do on a Friday night, and we remembered that the DIA is open late. If you live in the tri-county area, admission is free, too!Great, varied collection. The building itself is beautiful--make sure to look at all the intricate details in the woodwork. There was also live music. Great date night!
Took my nine year old for their first visit. It was so cool. It is absolutely huge inside. We spent about six hours there and tried to see the whole thing. i don't think we were able to.Liked the 17th century dinner table setup. four people sit at a table, and they project a movie from the ceiling down onto the top of the table recreating a typical meal in France in the 17th century for wealthy people. I'm a guy, and i thought it was very creative and very cool. There is a wide variety of exhibits, and it's just crazy to think that some of the egyptian exhibit is over four thousand years old!We had a nice day. Highly recommended. We'll return.where comfortable shoes, and plan your visit.
The DIA is a must see for visitors to Detroit. Its collection is a treasure trove. The DIA is filled with kindly volunteers who are so helpful. Not to be missed.
The museum is quite large, has some neat new additions (wine and comfy chairs, yes please), and always has a traveling exhibit that is interesting. Parking garages are nearby, but were pretty full due to the Oscar nominated shorts being shown. Staff are helpful and welcoming.
Yesterday was our 1st visit to the DIA in well over a decade and we enjoyed our visit. The variety is outstanding ranging from swords and battle gear that is over 500 years old to art that is from the past century. The wide variety of artwork is what I liked best and we covered about half the DIA in the 2.5 hours we were there. The Dutch Masters on the 3rd floor is a must see.
Loved the Diego exhibit and the fact that there was someone there to explain the artists ideas and meaning. There is nothing I disliked and will definitely go again.
Providing quality art, (check out the movie theatre too!), the DIA is a pearl in the middle of midtown
Grew up in Detroit and spent many days of my youth exploring the old DIA. The new version is crisp and airy, but still feels like home to me. Can't visit without seeing "The Wedding Dance" and the Van Goghs.
Detroit has a history of being one of the USA's premier cities...in the past. Things have changed, but some of its institutions are alive and well, including the Detroit Art Institute, the Science Museum and the Detroit Public Library. All have major collections with something for everyone. The Art Institute is still considered one of the very best in the Midwest and offers wonderful exhibitions, a foreign film series, children's programs, classes, a very nice relaxing place for lunch and fabulous art and artifacts donated or purchased over decades. Don't miss it!
