I was surprised at the condition of the parking lot and showroom here at the Tulip Garden. Yes, I purchased a pair of wooden shoes here for a relative, but no one else was here. Old signs in poor condition are hanging near the doorway, and the whole place just looked tired and sad. I hope the gardens are worthwhile for the visitors to Holland in the spring, because I cannot recommend a visit here to the shop.
Gardens are nice, but be aware if you purchase bulbs here, that they do not guarantee their product. We purchased 4 bulbs and only 2 came up. We called and they asked that we send an e-mail with our receipt which we did. We followed up with 2 more e-mails and a phone call with no response. Terrible customer service.
Largest selection of Tulip bulbs I've ever seen. Not much in the store (it was a weekend), but worth the trip just see the bulbs.
We loved visiting the tulip gardens at Veldheers, the rows of tulips are well marked with the name of the variety. Lots of kodac moments, we spent several hours just strolling around. Didn't think much of the store and gift shop there, but the garden is worth your while.
We enjoyed wandering around the tulip garden. Lots of walking. Lots of tour buses dropping off people. Get there early in the morning if you want to take pictures without lots of people getting in the photo, as some people don't pay attention to what is going on around them and just walk in front of you. The flowers are gorgeous.
We were in Holland for my Mom's funeral. She loved red tulips and we wanted to give people who came to pay their respects red tulips. The lady who waited on us turned out to be my lunch lady from high school and Mr. Veldheer and his family made our tribute to Mom happen. The bulbs were lovely, people loved the tribute, and we are thankful to Veldheer's for touching and blessing us at this time.
This warehouse style building next to the gardens is a disappointment, but meets the "tourist trap" expectations. I didn't feel the building was well kept and needed updating. Tables haves wares sitting around and the "factory" has a window on the back wall where, once in awhile, someone comes in to work on wooden shoes. LOTS of touristy souvenirs and a wall of colorfully painted wooden shoes in adult and children sizes. Since the experience is free, it's worth a short visit. Next door are the gardens and warehouse full of tulip and perennial bulbs.
The tulips were beautiful. Staff were very friendly and we will go back there again sometime. We will take warmer clothing the next time we visit Michigan though>
Since my trip here was in the summer, after tulip time, there weren't really any flowers much to see. Also, I was not interested in buying bulbs, since they are too difficult to grow in Florida where I live. I did look through the bulb market and the selection is quite impressive.I did very much enjoy the Delft ware and wooden shoe factory next door. The people are friendly. If you ask, they will tell you all kinds of information about how the shoes are made. That is fascinating. I bought a small Delft bowl for only $4.99. I also bought a set of small Delft Dutch shoes for a Christmas ornament, also $4.99.I wasn't willing to fork out $40-$50 for a full-sized pair of wooden shoes, so I went through their seconds bins. For $10 each you can purchase wooden shoes with imperfections, some extreme, some minor flaws. Most of these shoes are unfinished. However, I easily found two matching shoes with minor flaws. They were finished except for interior sanding, something I can do myself. So, I got my pair of wooden shoes for $20. They will even burn your name and date into them for free.Very nice people and a good selection. I highly recommend a stop here.
We were there right after the Tulip Time week in 2014. . . absolutely beautiful. Beds are numbered and you get a guide book so you can mark off your favorites. Great price on bulbs and we placed our order for this fall.
5 million tulips plus other bulbs and buffalo too! As you wander through the beds of tulips, you can actually feel yourself relax more and more. I heard other visitors try to explain the experience. It's like you take an involuntary deep sigh and your blood pressure drops as you are totally content to just take in all of that beauty.
We enjoyed the Tulip Gardens very much.... A little chilly... So many beautiful flowers and the opportunity to buy some.. Our order has already been placed for bulbs for the fall....
Even though we missed the Tulip Festival beginning of May, the tulips are still in bloom at the end of month of May. It's not far from Chicago. Location is a very unique, small town, easy to find.
Great sight to see so many tulips. Neat to walk thru 5 million flowers. Fun to take pictures amongst all the flowers. Bison were in a pasture at a good distance away so difficult to see. Store had plenty to offer. If you want to purchase bulbs, this is the place.
