How cool to have this elk park right in the city. You can feed them and watch them very up close..Unusual entertainment
You get to be quite close to the elk, and watch them scavenge for food. The very large park surroundings give it a natural feel, as opposed to cramped spaces in a zoo.
Very neat to see live elk in the city. Free. Fun for all ages. Close up viewing available but not guaranteed.
The ability to get up close to these huge beasts and see their beauty firsthand is amazing. The first time we saw them, we were in awe. One of the first stops we make whenever we visit the area.
Was difficult to find but well worth the search. There were many elk, some of which came right up to the fence. I don't remember what other animals were there, but it wasn't just elk.
Visited here just this afternoon. As another review said, it is a little difficult to find. All you have to do is find the Elks ( believe it, or not! ) Lodge building, and there you are! We were there at about 2:00 in the afternoon. There is a feeding area up near the fence, and it appeared that they had just been fed. There were many feeding, and some just laying down, near where the feeding was going on. There were a few cars there. One review said to make sure to stay in your car, so they wouldn't be scared away from the fence. Everyone did stay in their car, and the elk acted as if nobody was around. We even saw a small flock of turkeys there too. We'll be going back next time we're in Gaylord!
The elk were eating hay when we arrived, so we were able to see many males & females. We got some nice pics. It was a cold snap September evening so we couldn't stay very long. On a future trip to the area, I would like to return to the park. The park was easy to find & not far from the interstate.
The official park viewing is at the end of the road at. ..wait for it, the Elks Lodge (lol). There is at least one bench and picnic table. The park is surrounded by fence. So, don't think you'll be walking among them. However, unlike any zoo, the fence is all that separates you. We were lucky enough that they came right over to the fence and laid down. Not sure if it also has white elk or not, but we saw 3 or so white (smaller) horned animals. The horns were more the shape of moose. Regardless, pretty neat. Kids liked it and we went back a few times during our stay in Gaylord area.TIP: If the elk are not near the park fence line, either walk the fence line south, or take the street that heads south (just before the Elks Club), Elkview Drive, and go behind the business about 150 yards away. But go after business hours (sign from owner states nor for Elk viewing and he has cameras).
We go to this location every year for the past 15 years and this time we didn't see any elk such a disappointment. We went to the two viewing locations and no elk. Disappointed.
Where else can you literally come face to face with an enormous elk? It's an experience not to be missed. Elk of all ages share a large preserve in the city limits. There are also reindeer and wild turkeys. Kids and adults alike find this encounter fascinating. Bring your camera!
Can't see this just anywhere. Must visit! Kids loved seeing the Elk and couldn't believe how big they were and how close up they came to the fence.
can get very close to the elk. were able to see two of the males butting heads. Saw some other animals that appeared to be either deer or antelope but without binoculars were unable to get a good view. Also saw some wild turkeys as well.
We are locals. You can get up close and personal with the wildlife without crowds. Our visitors did enjoy the wildlife. Easy to find just drive right up. Bring your leased dogs.
Stop by and view the Elks and their young ones. At feeding time it is easy to view them right from the road and in your car. It is a easy quick fun thing to do with little children or anyone who has never seen Elk up close.
