You just can't visit Carleton, Michigan, without taking time to visit the Calder Dairy Farm. Adults and children alike will enjoy this experience. They not only have cows, but, pigs, goats, ponies, horses, rabbits, geese, chickens, and other interesting animals. There are opportunities to feed and pet the animals. There is a lovely pond and picnic tables to sit and enjoy the antics of the birds and just enjoy the view. If you come in the late afternoon, around 4 o'clock, you can actually see the cows being milked. They have delicious refreshments and their own ice cream and assorted other dairy products for sale. The drive from the main road is lovely and it gives you a real feeling for country living. It's absolutely free and relaxing and enjoyable!

I used to come here when I was a kid and I don't remember it being so disgusting. Most of the animals are living in poor conditions and there bodies show it. Animal control needs to be contacted to stop the cruelty. I'm very disappointed that a place I once loved has gone down hill so badly. I know farms and know they aren't the cleanest places and they are difficult to maintain but I've never seen a farm in that poor of a condition. I'd be happy to volunteer to help clean it up calders. I'd like to take my children there to enjoy it like I did when I was a kid.so Take care of your animals and farm properly calders clean it up. I am forced to visit due to my job so next time if it's that disgusting I won't just be leaving a poor review

Been going there for years and love being able to go to the source. However - place needs a bit of a cleaning. The store is getting pretty run down in there. There are some great ideas in place like the hand washing stations. But they need to be monitored and cleaned throughout the day. Some of the areas where the animals are housed also need to be cleaned up as well. I know it's a working farm and all, but no animal needs to live in filth. Wanted to get some ice cream but it looked so unappetizing that we passed on that one. Please Calder's - just a little cleaning would benefit greatly. It's a wonderful place to bring the kids to and be able to interact with animals there.

with lots to do for a visiting toddler. She rode the cows, pigs and horses (statues) and met the real ones on site. She also got to feed the baby calves (with a large baby bottle...that was a real highlight) and watch the goats eat from their food trolley. The big barns are open to visitors also. It's a fun environment with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the waterfall, feed the ducks and eat ice cream. The staff is very friendly and willing to answer questions and although the ice cream is always a main attractoin here.....they also have quite possibly the BEST chocolate milk anywhere (and our NY visitors heartily agreed.).

We took our 3 & 4 year old sons today. Some friends of ours, also, came along with their 2 & 1 year old grandsons. The little fellows totally enjoyed exploring and learning about the MANY different farm animals. It is like a farm-version of a zoo!!! We all had a wonderful time. It was a beautiful, warm day for this outdoor activity.

We love going to Calder's by motorcycle, walking around to visit all the farm animals and eating their creamy homemade ice cream. You can watch the dairy cows being milked around 4pm every day. Fun to do while eating ice cream!

My family and I have enjoyed Calder's dairy for years. We were even excited to learn that they hooked up with Door to Door Organic's in Michigan. Image our horror while reading the label on their famous egg nog that it contains GMO (Corn syrup). Are family will not be buying anymore dairy from Calder's until this is removed. I will be letting all my family and friends no about this. Shame on you Calder's! If we wanted egg nog with corn syrup in it we could have just bought it at the stores.

It is a good place for the family, plenty of animals for kids to feed (calves, cows, pigs, donkeys, etc.). There's even an ox and horses! They sell food to feed the animals for $1.50 in the general store. They also have great ice cream and many flavors. The public restrooms are 2 porta-potties...NO SINK TO WASH HANDS which can be a big deal for those who are petting and feeding animals then want to grab an ice cream! They have hand sanitizer available but there's just something about soap and water after you had a cow slobber his spit and snot all over your hand!!Bring your camera!

Grandson ended up in the shallow pond chasing a duck. Yes, I was soaked pulling him out. I wouldn't trade that memory for anything. County store where you can purchase fresh products. Milk in glass containers. Check out the calfs, hourse, etc.

It's looking alittle rough around the edges. Needs some paint and some TLC. The ice cream at the ice cream shop didn't have a lot of flavor. I had peach and you couldn't even taste anything peachy. My son had blue moon, and that was tasteless as well.

Fun place for all. They also accept groups. Hayrides, milking times, petting of animals and a great little pond to eat your ice cream after visiting the store. Free place to visit unless you buy ice cream.

My children's classes went in Preschool and Kindergarten for a field trip. It was a wonderful experience. The tour was a lot of fun, and they loved the ice cream. We even got to take a hayride. The store has a lot more than ice cream as well.
