This is an AMAZING spot to hit with friends! There is a little something for everyone. The employees were all well informed and delightful! It's hard to miss but it's worth finding.
We were at the Gilmore Auto Museum, a place I recommend if you like Automobiles (not cars). After we saw what I came to see (every automobile at the museum), we had time so we went into the Midwest Miniatures Museum. As I walked through with the wife, I started to appreciate what went into the making of the place. It was actually pretty good to walk through. Was it worth the paid admission, I think it was. The displays pay great attention to detail. It's pretty amazing just thinking of all the man hours needed to create the displays, blew me away actually. If you're headed to the lower western part of Michigan and you're looking for something to occupy your time, go to the Gilmore. But go early, because you really should give this place a LITTLE bit of your time(Of course the pun was intended). You give a little bit of your time, and you will probably spend a little bit more. Just saying, give it a chance. As an old commercial used to say, "Hey Mickie, he likes it", you just might find that you do too. I had to put down that I visited this year, last time there was about 2 summers ago.
I volunteered here last summer and the attention to detail in these miniatures is absolutely astounding...go visit...not just for women there are plenty of things for men too.
The Midwest Miniature Museum is a hidden gem at Hickory Corners, Michigan. Is about 30-40 minutes northeast of Kalamazoo. This museum is just next to the Gilmore Car Museum. This museum is housed in a small farmhouse, but is packed with many miniature houses, rooms, toy stores, chair collections, etc. The collection has some high quality pieces and comparable to some of the U.S. larger museums. One of the houses was decorated with miniature Waterford crystals. There is a toy shop with over hundred pieces of toys. An impressive Van Gogh house depicting room with some of his famous paintings, as well as containing miniature replicas of his paintings. For those art lovers, there were also miniature painting recreation such as Monet, Picasso's, Cassatt, Bourguereau and Georgia O'Keefe, if you look closely. The volunteer staff was very friendly and provided many interesting information about the pieces. It's worthwhile to visit if you are in the area. The entrance fee was by donation. They only operate May 1st to October 31st. You can check more on their website http://www.midwestminiaturesmuseum.com/
