Piper created the model T of airplanes, the Cub. This museum presents a history of the family and the airplane company. The museum is probably more interesting to aviation enthusiast, but has something for all. Good short side trip, but don't expect a lot unless you are into aviation or local Lock Haven history
I'm from Ohio but I have family in Lock Haven so we visit every June so that we can visit Piper and the annual fly-in. My 5 year old gets more excited every year to visit the museum and see all the planes. It's a nice piece of PA history. Take the kids or your grandparents...everyone will have a good time and even more so if you go in June to the fly-in!
We went here to kill some time. The upstairs gives you a lot of historical information. But downstairs is the real fun: Airplanes!Great to see the planes, but little kids would be bored.
My husband is an Aerospace Engineer, and I am an engineer too. We enjoyed the explanation of how the aviation company started, and pursued making airplanes and piloting available to the general public. Very nice models and really enjoyed the several planes in the Hangar. $5 each I think, and cash only(?) Could use some updating (info video was VHS :P ) but was a fun 45min-1hour
The cost to get in of $6.00 per person was definitely not worth it. Maybe $1.00. There is very little in the museum and the people working there are not the friendliest.
The Piper Aircraft Museum is an interesting stop if you happen to be driving through the Lock Haven, Pa area. It's situated in the old Piper Engineering building and it offers a lot of history of Piper Aircraft back in the glory days of general aviation. There are plenty of old aircraft and vintage pictures to explore. They have a small gift shop where you can pick up some Piper related itemsand have some interesting conversation with the store employees about the Piper models that were built at this facility and what it was like working there when the famous Piper Cubs rolled down the line.
