Our team has done an incredible job in the last 15 months updating the Ski Lodge including the Clocktower restaurant as well as the Ski Shop, Rental Shop, Cafeteria, and multiple beautification projects throughout the resort. Unfortunately we cannot control the weather but our team has worked countless hours ensuring the slopes are covered in snow and providing the best possible conditions for our guests. Anything mechanical is subject to failure at anytime and our lifts are maintained and inspected regularly by law. We lived inside Hidden Valley from 1985 to 1991 and our children grew up on 2,000 acres of pristine nature. As a result of having less than 16 people on the mountain, our family grew closer and came to really know each other. If you should have the opportunity to enjoy a family stay or better move to HV, do so. They were the best years of our lives. Communing with nature and each other.
Our office entertained 58 customers and staff for a two day golf outing at this resort. They were gracious enough to allow us to check in before lunch. The rooms were pretty much the same as last year with a few minor improvements. They are large, clean, and exactly what most people want in a ski resort. Fancy does not work in this application. The buffet dinner they prepared for us was excellent. The filet, ribs, and chicken were prepared perfectly and the vegetable and dessert followed along. The staff were very attentive and made sure everyone had their needs met. The golf course in challenging and in terrific shape and used to be a well kept secret. With the new ownership, they are seeing more play. The real bummer for us was they put all of our foresomes out shotgun crammed in too few holes. The lucky ones finished in just under 6 hours. Many took longer even though most of our golfers were single digit handicap and play quite fast. . If we do not have a commitment this will improve, we will not return. By the way,The second day those that played did so in 4 hours. I still gave 4 stars due to the totality of our two day visit.
I consider Hidden Valley my home ski resort. This is where I learned to ski probably 13 or 14 years ago. I ski here 10+ times a season and will most likely continue to going forward. Its certainly not the best resort out there. Not even the steepest in the Laurel Highlands. But it is a nice family resort. Crowds are fairly light on weekends when compared to Seven Springs. They purchased new state of the art snow guns several years ago that make great snow. Also the snow grooming crew does a great job overnight to groom deep and pack down a great surface.
Yes, the rooms almost doubled in price, but where can you go for a patio king suite at a ski resort for $185 (plus tax) a night? We had a wonderful fireplace, decent sized living room, dining table for 2, small kitchen (small refrigerator, microwave, kuerig coffee maker, sink). You can park right at your door--no going through lobbies, take elevators and walk down long hallways to lug your stuff. Were there some problems? Sure. The tub didn't really drain, the bathroom overall was tired, but the water was hot. The unit was warm and toasty. The king bed was very comfortable! The sofa and love seat were very comfortable to sit on as well. I think they are new this year. We didn't use the pool or the continental breakfast. The breakfast was easier to do in the suite.Now to the skiing...we ski there because we are seniors who don't want the crowds of SS. We used to ski exclusively at SS when we were younger, but now ski exclusively at Hidden Valley. Try getting a room at SS for the price of a suite at HIdden Valley and they are only about 15 minutes away.The slopes were well groomed and there are no lift lines (we go during the week). Could the lifts go faster? Yes, but isn't that the case for all ski resorts? We're going back next week. Can't beat the value of this resort.
