The greens rolled true and the ball sat up in the fairways. 3 par fives on the back nine give you a great chance to recover from any mistakes on the front nine.
I've played Range end many time and would recommend this course for the middle handicappers. The course is fair and not tricked up. Right now the rough is very low so not too penalizing. Greens have been in reasonable shape but do get a lot of play. Nice pub after the round to down a few brewskis. Food is fair.Dress code is very casual so expect to see all types of outfits the course.Keep your head down!
On Wednesday May 1, 2013 at 9AM, and most Wednesdays from April 3rd to October 2nd, I golfed 18 holes with the Range End Ladies Golf Association ($22 for greens fee and cart) that is open to the public. The Range End Golf Course is located 12 miles from Carlisle - 10 miles on PA 74 South; 1/2 mile on US 15 South; and 1/4 mile on Mountain Road. It is a pretty countryside drive with the Appalachain Trail and the Yellow Breeches stream crossing PA 74 South. The golf course, in the foothills of the South Mountain of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is very challenging. There are 50 sand bunkers; babbling brooks cross the fairway on 6 holes (a ball retriever is necessary); 2 ponds; a couple hills and sloping fairways. For the red tees, course rating 68.6/course slope 114. The Daffodils, Jonquil flowers, and other plantings are pretty. Play starts on #10 every other Wednesday. I participated in the 8AM, 3 week, 1-hour golf clinic by Brett Ernst, PGA Golf Professional, at the driving range/practice sand trap and putting green ($20 total). Brett was the most helpful pro that I have experienced: I plan to consult with him in the future. With the other lady golfers, after golf I had an average junior cheeseburger and a Pepsi ($7.10) at Noonan's Tavern at the Range End Golf Club.
