An architectural masterpiece and certainly something one doesn’t expect in good old, conservative Milwaukee. Oh, and the art’s pretty darn good, too, but be forewarned: most of the galleries are closed for a few months during the Museum’s renovation. Best to check their website for updates: http://mam.org/
The architecture alone makes this museum worth visiting. The wings open at certain times of day. Main galleries are off display as they remodel and only a couple exhibits are open. Walk inside if there you can walk in for free and get some great pictures of architecturally stunning gem.
The building is spectacular. Not only is its exterior marvelous with the folding wings, but the wonderfully open interior has a magical view of Lake Michigan. Its a "must see" if you are in Milwaukee. There is no fee for just entering the building and wandering around, enjoying the beautiful views of the lake.
Parts of the museum were closed during my visit, but the areas that were open were very interesting, especially the “Inspiring Beauty – 50 Years of Ebony Fashion Fair”. I really enjoyed seeing the creations by Christian Dior, Vivienne Westwood, Ungaro, YSL, Valentino to name a few. Another great piece was the Chihuly In the main hall along with that beautiful view of Lake Michigan.
Large, beautiful museum!!! Walking paths on lakefront outside. Make sure to watch it open and close from the bridge at 10am I believe.(check schedule) Admission is a little expensive, but worth it:.) Discounts for seniors?
MAM has an amazing collection of art. Saturdays at 10:00 AM they have a docent lead a group of children to a specific piece of art, read a children's story and have the children do a drawing based on the piece of art and the literature. The African Americans in Fashion exhibit is incredible! A must see.Unfortunately, MAM is renovating. The special exhibit, college student art (which is wonderful) and a beautiful view is all you can see, currently.
This is a nice pleasant place. Full of creativity and inspiration. Even if you aren't interested in art per se, there might be something that will catch your interest. There is also a shop inside where you can buy stuff for yourself or for gifting anyone. Also, a coffee and snack shop make for a good chit-chat with a friend.
This is a beautiful place! The building is beautiful and overlooks Lake Michigan. Then there's the art - very nice. There's a good restaurant and once a month on Saturday mornings, they have yoga in the main atrium.
A great place to see contemporary as well as classic artists. Loved this exhibit and spent hours touring the many levels and galleries!
Wonderful building and collection . A nice winter day visit. On the Milwaukee waterfront and worth the trip.
I would take my students here as a teacher, and my own kids here as a family day trip. It is a fascinating art museum. Even when I took kids as young as 2nd-3rd grade they were enthralled with all the museum had to offer. great museum!
I liked unique Paintings, sculptures, lots of variety. Love the location on the lake. Lots of art to see. Child friendly.
Not worth the visit while renovations are underway. All permanent exhibitions are closed until summer 2015. There is 1 visiting exhibition and a bunch of amateur art without a unifying theme. Unbelievably they still charge full price.
The MAM surprises by the choice and quality of its exhibitions. It compares very adequately withits "neighbor" in Chicago, that is in my opinion. Keep in mind that I am a Rotterdam nativewhere we had the Boymans museum and a stone's throw away the Mauritshuis (Vermeer) in theHague. Its presentation on the lake makes me think of the Opera House in Sydney.I even have found it unnecessary to continue my Chicago Art Institute membership.
