First off, it's difficult to make really good wines from the cold-weather hybrids. There's always that "wildness" that many wineries tend to tame by making their wines sweet, like Mogen David. So if you go in with your eyes and palate open and know what to expect, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised here. These people know what they're doing. Even though I'm primarily a red wine guy (and their Chambourcin ain't bad), their real stars are the Vidal Blanc and especially the Marquette Rose. These are easy-drinking, crisp wines that are perfect chilled and enjoyed while chilling on their gorgeous patio. And actually, the ambiance they've built here is the real star: it's a beautiful facility that looks like it belongs in Tuscany or Spain, even though Centerville is just a couple miles away. Go as a couple or bring another couple along. Order a plate of local cheeses and artisanal sausages, share a couple bottles of wine and watch the sunset (preferably before dinner at the Trempealeau Hotel). Really, really good.
The wines were ok. The tasting rooms at other wineries in the area had better servers and looked much better. The cheese, crackers and sausage were good though.
Besides offering fine wines (we were just enjoying "Three Cheers" at home), these folks offer wine tasting in the friendliest of atmospheres. The place is new and clean, and everyone makes you want to come back again. We have and we will!
This place is like Napa Valley in the middle of WI. You get 3 complimentary tastings and we ordered a huge cheese plate for $12. The setting is beautiful. If you're looking for something to do, you can just hang out there for the afternoon and sit on the patio. They often have live music too.
A short drive from Winona, Mn. or a moderate beautiful drive from La Crosse, Wi. Sitting near the Mississippi River on top of a small hill is the beautiful tasting room and central meeting place. Elegant decor, and a friendly, wine-educated staff take you through tastings from award winning, dry to dessert wines. The first 3 tastes are free...a small fee for seven. It was customer appreciation day when we were there...very busy, but all were happy! A wide assortment of wines and gifts for every pallet and every occasion. Treat yourself and friends to some wonderful wines and scenery. Can't wait to go back!
My husband and I have been here several times, and I have to say it's my favorite WI winery, mostly because of the view. We were there during the week when it was slow and were able to sit on their gorgeous patio, just enjoying the view of the hills. Their wines are pretty good for the most part. Raspberry is by far their best, but it sells out quickly -usually within a month or two of introduction. Their cheese plate was to die for! It included Sartori, a local amish cheese and this unbelievably creamy French brie. Great place to visit if you want a relaxing afternoon, but definitely go during the week. It's very busy on weekends.
Went on a busy Saturday, they seen it was a group of 9 and took us right back to a nice back room for our wine sampling, we had one gal who was very good at explaining the wines. There was some great food for sales there, like the chocolate with dried fruit, EXCELLENT and the caramels. I bought some type of mustard and cant wait to try it. The view was great and will be even better come fall. Also, they seem to have a brisk wedding business. So All thumbs up for the Elmaro!! It was our favorite spot of the day.
We went with friends who wanted to introduce us to the Elmaro experience. They had been there twice before. It was well worth the visit. The building and patio are unique and provide an outstanding view of the vineyard. Live background music was a great touch. We selected two different cheese/sausage plates along with two wines. Both the La Crescent and Marquette wines we had were quite good. We would order them again. We will return.
Awesome winery. Great wait staff. They are knowledgeable about the product and helpful. Tastings are free for up to 3 different wines. My favorite was a white wine "LaCresent" and their high end port. They have a stress reliever in which you can have food pairings and the wine. You must have 4 minimum people. Patio is nice. Great job on wines.
A stop at Elmaro Vineyard is a great way to enjoy an afternoon or evening. I like to start out my visit with a tasting at the wine bar, followed by a glass or 2 on the patio with one of the cheese/sausage plates. Almost everything offered at Elmaro is locally sourced. The view from the patio is excellent; looking out over the vineyard toward the Minnesota river bluffs. The service is top notch with very knowledgeable tasting guides. Friendly, fun and relaxing with some tasty local wines!
So many of the wineries in this area of WI have utilized the University of Minnesota to develop grapes to grow in our region. I have been to WI wineries that use too much fruit instead of grapes. With that said, I am impressed with this winery who have created quality wines with grapes instead of fruit. This place was quite the find on our vacation. I would have signed up for their wine pairings or other events, but they were booked up. Maybe I will have to vacation there again to do one of their events. It is a perfect place for a romantic wine tour, a girls day get-away, a bachelorette party or wedding/reception. The place was beautiful. I can't say enough..... just enjoy!
Had an amazing time celebrating our anniversary! Live relaxing music, sunshine, amazing patio space and great wine. Highly recommend for a relaxing day or night! Cheers!
We are in the area every May for the Reggae Fest in Trempealeau and make Elamaro winery a definite destination. Love to be able to sit out on the patio with wine and Tapas overlooking the vineyard.
A quick stop here turned into a half-day event! After doing the complimentary wine tasting, we ordered a bottle of wine and a meat & cheese tray. The wines are fantastic, the staff is super knowledgeable and friendly, the food was delicious, and the property is beautiful... spent a few hours on the deck area relaxing - ended up leaving with a few bottles. A must see if you are in the area, or just passing through - you won't regret it!
We attended an open house there this weekend. They had 15 wines available for tasting and purchasing a ticket got you samples of nine of these. They had something for everyone so not sure how anyone could leave without making a purchase. Fire roasted pizza, wine a live band and a small area with artist vendors. A pleasant way to spend an afternoon and of course add to my expanding wine collection.
