Great tour, the kids asked tons of questions and our guide was able to answer everyone. If you've been here in the past come again, the displays change. I hope to catch the Prange's Christmas Window display sometime.
I had a few hours to spend before checking into our hotel and decided to visit this museum with two of my daughters. I'm so glad we went! My daughters and I walked through the museum first. It's small, but nice. They had a temporary 'Paper Wall' exhibit commentating Vietnam vets in the area who died. They had a small civil war exhibit that kids could interact with. After going through the museum we had a tour of the Taylor house, a log cabin, cheese factory and old barn. The docent was so very knowledgable when showing us around. We learned a few interesting things. The docent (I wish I had his name) really seemed to enjoy what he was doing. The tours were supposed to start at 11:00 & 3:00 I believe. We got there around 11:30 and were given a tour anyway. I highly recommend this tour. I wish tripadvisor had photos.
We visit the museum each Thanksgiving weekend with our grandchildren and other members and particularly enjoy the store front display windows from Prange's. It reminds us of years past when we went to the store on Thanksgiving Day to see the latest display. We also enjoy the electric trains, circus exhibit, and cookies!
My husband was seeking ancestry information on his grandmother. She had been adopted as an infant, so the trail was somewhat vague. The staff there, however, proved to be so skillful in helping him to retrieve all kinds of information on her birth family! We were so impressed!
If you are in Sheboygan and have a couple of hours to kill this is an interesting and enjoyable experience . The property is atop a hill over looking the area. Here is where Judge Taylor built a stately house for his wife. On this property is also located the 1864 Weinhold log cabin homestead, the 1867 Bodenstab Cheese Factory and the 1890s Schuchardt Barn and agricultural display. The tour guides are helpful and knowledgeable. In the museum you can go thru changing and seasonal displays concerning the area history. There is also a very nice gift shop.
