While staying in Lahaina, Maui I made a day-trip to the Island of Lanai. Just the round-trip ferry ride there was worth the voyage. Beautiful 45 minute ride from Maui to Lanai. Disembark in a perfectly groomed harbor and take a 20 minute stroll to Hulopoe Beach. Stunning. I arrived very early, having taken the first ferry out to Lanai. I think it left Maui at 6:30 am. When I arrived at Hulopoe Beach there were only a tiny handful of people already there. I hiked to Sweetheart Rock first to avoid the heat of midday. Glad I did. It becomes a very hot walk once you are halfway there. No tree cover and the sun bakes the rocky path to the top. I stopped many many times along the way to take photos of the majestic scenery so it took me longer to reach the top than most. I estimate it took me 45 minutes. The beginning trail is very easy but it does get slightly more difficult as the path turns from dirt to rocky paths with an incline. The views are worth the sweat. You really get to enjoy the views on the trip back down. On your way back, stop at the staircase leading to the tidal pools. Explore. Enjoy. Then return to the beach and cool off in the sparkling blue water. I found the waves a bit strong so stayed near shore, but several people were out in the water. BONUS: If you are doing this trip from Dec to Mar you are bound to see whales on both legs of the ferry ride. I saw many a spout, a few humpbacks, and a few breeches on the horizon. KUDOS: to whoever it is arranging pieces of coral as a work of art amongst the lava rocks and tidal pools.

Amazing beach with sugar sand for great swimming and easy access to some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii.Spectacular scenery, no crowds and great facilities.Lunch at the Four Seasons by the pool is lovely.Ferry ride over was not bad, return trip was a horrible nightmare. People were using the barf bags, it was frightening.Despite the return ferry ride, this was a memorable, awesome day.

Very secluded beach/island. Barely any people. Great for get-a-way and to relax. Good snorkeling spot.

This is a beautiful beach in a beautiful bay in the shadow of the beautiful Four Seasons Resort. Is it worth visiting Lanai when there are soooo many beautiful beaches on Maui? Maybe not! If you are on a multi week vacation, then spend a day exploring Lanai. The resorts are magnificent. Lanai City is quaint and the far off beaches, like Shipwreck, are a littered bust. MY SUGGESTION: Take the 9am ferry from Lahaina, spend some time on the beach at Manele Bay, have a great lunch at the Four Seasons overlooking their pool and the bay living like their guests that are paying $1500/ night and take the late afternoon ferry back to Lahaina.

We've caught the early morning ferry from Lahaina to Manele Lanai at 6:45 am with the hope to see the pod of dolphins playing at Hulopoe beach. Well, they wereen't there but we had a great time discovering the fishing bowl just off the Hulopoe beach.Coming so early in the morning, we had the entire beach for us for around one hour. This place is spectacular, maybe because it hasn't so many visitors...In the depths of the blue waters, amongst colorful tropical fishes, we've seen Mano Lalakea - the Whitetip Reef Shark. They say you are lucky if you would encounter a shark while snorkelling in Hawaii... In reality we've been scared a bit, just thinking that in those waters the humans are not longer at the top of food chain...

We caught the ferry from Lahaina to Lanai to enjoy my birthday at the beach. It was about a 10 minute walk from the ferry to Hulopoe Beach. What a beautiful spot. It looks like a beach on a deserted island, surrounded by huge palm trees. We were so happy to find lots of shade there, since we didn't bring a beach umbrella with us. There were also lots of picnic tables, which was great for enjoying the lunch we brought with us. Plus nice outdoor showers, to get rid of all the sand in your bathing suit after getting knocked down by the waves! And washrooms too.We arrived at 10:00 AM and it was basically empty. There were maybe 20 people in total spaced out along the beach. We spent four hours just enjoying the crashing waves, spinner dolphins off-shore, soft sand, and amazing views. The people from Trilogy came, but they all stayed at the left end of the beach snorkeling. It was paradise, and I would highly recommend it.

Only accessible swimming beach on the island. We camped just off the beach in the designated campground. Reasonable cost compared to $500+ to stay in hotels. Campsites were level with grills and the clean bathrooms. These amenities come at the cost of no seclusion and noisy beach partiers. The night we stayed a group of people were blasting music until midnight, I actually enjoyed it, but not for everyone. You can camp anywhere on this island for free, we didn't know this until we arrived.

Great beach not far from the Four Seasons, and the snorkeling was very good here.... Don't miss it.....

We took the ferry over and didn't get to the beach until early afternoon. Walking through the Four Seasons will knock your socks off but once you get to the beach, you'll be able to enjoy the shoreline irregardless of your income level! You must walk all the way to the end of the beach to the point that they call Sweetheart Rock. THAT is the most spectacular part of the area. It's a very short walk around the point.

This is a very nice beach to visit while on Lanai as it is very easy to get to and is right by the resorts. There are also camping areas at this beach that look cozy.

We took the Expedition Ferry over- takes approx 45 minutes. I am so glad we did this! The water was fabulous! There are trees for shade, picnic tables, fresh running water and restrooms. The Four Seasons is a short walk away and you can sit there and enjoy cocktails and lunch or get the lunch to go and take it back to the beach. We took the 9:45 ferry over and the 4:45 return ferry back. I would go back and rent a car next time so I can see the other sites on the island!

Sailed to Hulopoe beach from Maui for snorkeling trip. Visibility was OK, not as good as many snorkeling areas on Maui. Reef OK but nothing special. Nice beach to sit and relax but not worth the time and cost to go all the way to Lanai. Many beaches on Maui are much nicer (Makena Beach Park) and easier to get to.

The beach was nice and sandy. Very picturesque. Snorkeling around the rocky area on the left side of the beach was particularly good. Large fish and LOTS of them! Some of the most exciting snorkeling in Hawaii. Fairly quiet beach and easily accessible.

This is a beautiful beach! Bathrooms, showers, picnic tables, shade trees, grills and walking distance from the ferry! You can snorkel here, but the current is strong so buddy up! There are interesting tidal pools to the left of the beach, so make sure to walk over and check them out. Also make sure to hike up to Sweetheart Rock, also to the left of the beach, there is a trail. It is not a long walk, and is worth it for sure! As we walked up to the Sweetheart Rock we witnessed a 8-10 foot shark below! We had just been snorkeling around the bend from there! They are everywhere, that's another reason why I say, "Buddy up!"

Spent our day going off road and falling in love with this island. Stopped here for some beach and snorkel time. Great snorkeling off to the sides, Nice set up with tables, showers and bathrooms. The sand was Soooo hot!! So bring water shoes or be prepared to run to the cool water soaked sand!
