If you have small kids be sure to go inside, there are lots of animals in aquariums to teach! Beautiful lake, has a frisbee golf course, two beaches, great fishing.
Wonderfully fun place to visit where you can spend all day enjoying diverse activities and end the day exhausted. A MUST SEE
We stayed in the Melvern cabin at Eisenhower State Park for almost 2 months in Feb-March 2013. They fell just shy of perfect but when you consider what you get for the price paid, it's FIVE STARS all the way! These adorable, fully furnished (even well-stocked with dishes--everything but an automatic dishwasher) 1-bedroom cabins can sleep up to 7. This was "home" for us and it was peaceful, quiet, comfortable, and private. The heater kicks butt and keeps the whole cabin warm. I would expect the A/C to also do the job in the summer and both the large bedroom and the kitchen/great room also have ceiling fans. The staff from the front desk to the camp hosts were fabulous, friendly, and helpful. We had close views of the lake from two sides of the cabin and a wonderful covered front porch. All of the cabins are virtually identical and all are ADA-approved, which is actually a small drawback for those of us who are tall enough to have to bend over to wash dishes at the lower counter height or for those with small children because there are no bath tubs, just roll-in showers. Outside there was room for 3 vehicles, including adequate room to easily park and unhitch a moderate-sized boat or trailer. There is also a nicely-maintained picnic table, brick firepit, and covered charcoal grill. "Nice", "clean", and "well-maintained" are words that represent not only the cabins, but the entire park as well. At $350/week in the off-season, this was, by-far, the best accomodations for your money in a 50-mile radius. Plan ahead though. The water heater is adequate for two people taking relatively quick showers but would not stay hot enough for a large group to shower all at once. There are additional showers and laundry facilities in the camping areas but I don't think they were open during winter. You must bring your own linens and soap and there is no maid service, but that just enhances the privacy. The doors even have combination locks that are changed with each visitor so you can go down to the beach without having to bring your keys, knowing your belongings are secure and without needing keys for each member of your party. There are lots of trails, bike trails, horse trails, and a long list of summer activities. The friendly park cat even followed us "home" on one of our walks one day. Pets are allowed in the park, but not IN the cabins.
