When I saw the sign for this zoo I thought "In Caney Kansas! Must be a few local animals and maybe a bear." I went back with my family and was so glad I did. I have not and probably never will again be so close to such beautiful animals. They were in great environments, sleek and shinny and the personnel were wonderful. There are lions, tigers, white tigers, grisley s, panther, monkeys, kangaroos, etc. The paths are tree covered and makes it cooler in summer. Although not large it is really worth the stop. I have been to many large city zoos, but this is really up close and personal.
I was at SZP several years ago and am wishing to go back! Tom and his wife have an amazing place! They try to let you have as many hands on experiences with the animals as possible! It beautiful as well as safe and educational. I tell everyone about it whenever the subject of animals and zoos come up! Perfect for 'kids' and animal lovers of all ages!
We love this zoo and all it has to offer, the love and care the owners have for the zoo and it's animals shows!!
We have been here several times .....love the personal guided tours by people who obviously love these animals. Up close and personal.
This attraction is awesome and family owned. You can see the love and care that is provided to the variety of animals that are located here. Never would have thought this place would exist in a small town in Kansas. The guided tour was very educational and entertaining as the owner would feed the animals while we were on the tour so you can see them very up close and personal, just inches from you. If you get the VIP tour, you also can hold and get your pictures taken with kangaroos, lemurs, baby crocodile, and large snakes. You can feed selected animals; the lemurs would actually come and take the food right out of your hand. When feeding the grizzly bear, the owner had him standing up on his hind legs and he must have been at least 10 feet tall, just a few feet away. It was rather awesome to see this huge animal that close. Even though this place is far away from any large town, it is well worth the trip. As they are only open part time, suggest calling first to make sure they will be open and what their hours will be that day you visit. In October, they were only open on Saturday for only three hours.
After seeing pictures of a friend being here, I decided I was needed to also go. I am by no means a fan of zoos but the love for the animals ( family) is showed. The owner was so kind to us and to the animals. The tour was educational and entertaining. I know we will drive the 13 hours again to enjoy this park again. Thank you for the wonderful education and pictures and laughs. Even though it rained it was worth every minute.
Who knew there was such a stellar attraction in the middle of Kansas! This is a fantastic wildlife park/zoo, with an amazing assortment of animals. Best, however, is the fact that the entire park is family owned, and thoroughly imbued with love and care. Further, you take guided tours, and are inches away from masterful animals--you're much more aware and up close than you would be at a standard zoo.Oh, and you can buy animal crackers to feed to select animals...the lemurs will actually take the cookies right from your hand! It's great!!
An amazing story behind this small zoo - the birth of the white tigers brought attention to this small family zoo and enabled them to keep it open. The animals there are truly amazing but what makes it wonderful are the people who own and work there. Their love, knowledge and enthusiasm for the guests who visit.
We visited the Safari Zoological Park in Caney, KS and it was a great experience. I have never been so Close and Personal with animals as I was there. I was in awe of the animals and their size and personalities. If you are interested in Tigers, Leopards, Bears, Wolves, Monkeys, Hyenas, Lemurs, etc.. you need to make a trip!
We live nearby so try to take our kids at least once a year. The guides obviously love their jobs and you can tell it's a family-owned establishment. This is so much more of an experience than a typical self guided zoo. Kids even get to feed animals with crackers you can purchase when you buy your tickets. Nice and clean. Very safe.
If you're in the upper Oklahoma, lower Kansas area, you must stop at this park that's just off the main road through Caney! It's not too large or too small, but it is a private zoo that gives guided tours. Which means you get details, q&a, demonstrations and a first hand account of the miracle that is their main attraction, the three white tiger cubs who were abandoned by their mother just hours after birth, but we're nursed by the family's golden retriever! We went with my grandparents, who are in their 80's, hard of hearing and not able to go long distances without rest, and the kindness they showed us by going slowly, giving a few rest minutes and seats was just lovely. We also had a few kids, including my 11 mo. old who rode on my back so she could see everything well. Obviously this is fun for all ages! There was a lemur who justed made our day! He was free roaming and liked snatching the small crackers offered to him right from our fingers. All of the other animals were enclosed, but be fore warned, they are very close! If someone were to be brave, stupidly so, they could reach across and into some of the enclosures and actually touch the tigers, lion, bears and hyenas! I guess this is just one of the many reasons it is a guided tour, that way they can keep an eye on everyone and not allow that to happen. We spent about an hour and a half there, so plan on that much time during a non-busy day. And since most of the walk ways were covered we didn't worry much about the sun or heat. Just got to enjoy a great atmosphere and see the love for many of these endangered species that the owners have.
cuando fui por pri mera vez mi hijo se desidrato por el calor que estaba aciendo me asuste pero el zoo nos encanto.
