This National Park was small but interesting. They have actual items from the Wright Brothers as well as a full size, exact replica of the first plane. The most interesting part, in our opinion, was their dwelling quarters and the launch area for the first flight. They have statues showing where the first flights actually went along the monorail. There is a large memorial, which we didn't go to because we ran out of time, as they close the park at 5pm. The walk is about 1 1/4 mile round trip and you climb up a large dune. There is a way to drive around the memorial with four parking areas. The cost for entry was $4 per person and the gift shop had a lot of books etc about the Wright Brothers. We spent about 45 minutes, to completely see this you need about 2 hours.

The kids loved seeing the planes and the history of what happened there, it was a bit of a walk up the hill; but you can drive to the memorial and then walk up. and there are some nice play areas for the kids on the back side of the monument.

At milepost 8 on the OBX highway you can stop at the Wright Brothers National Memorial, completed in 1932 to see the location of the historic "first flights" and the setting for the Wright Brothers years of glider testing prior. Impressive monument with commanding views of the surrounding Outer Banks lanscape. A great setting for a picnic, with nice facilities, and no traffic in the off-season!

The Visitor Center is appropriate for adults and kids with artifacts, stories, and history. The markers help to give an adequate appreciation as to the actual distances of each test flight. The memorial is worth the walk up the hill.

First went there in 1955 and returned in 2003 for the centennial celebration as part of the National Guard security force. Every American should visit this site.

Visited March 2015. This was a fantastic learning experience. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the gift shop had something for everyone. The indoor museum had great panels with lots of information and samples in them, and in the back was a replica of the glider and flying machine! They had portraits of all of the significant people in flight history, and they had a presentation every once and a while in there. Outside, they really tried to put you in the brother's shoes! From the markers to the statue to the hill, it was all fantastic! The view from atop the hill was breathtaking! I myself have a passion for flying, but the information and sights there is unbelievable for anyone, any age. Even saw a few dogs outside in the field.

We were impressed with the park. It was cold and WINDY here, we could picture the early fliers taking off in the wind of Kill Devil Hills. We got some awesome shots of everything in the park and nearby sites you can see from the monument.

On our arrival on the Outer Banks of North Carolina, we stopped at this National Monument. It was well worth the stop with a climb to the top of the hill, where the monument was and the tour of the museum. Because it was off season, we couldn't go up into the towering monument was it was a wonderful photo op.The history of it was really interesting; relating a story of two very self-determined brothers to discover how to fly.

NOT ADA friendly. Thought we would pass out before we reached the top of the hill. Not much to see once you get there other then great view of area. BUT you can do that from some hotels or other locations.

My kids liked this and ran to the top. They found the history of flight interesting and appreciated that everyone working there was willing to answer questions.

Not to be missed if you are in the area. This moment in history is right up there with the signing of the Delcaration of Independence or Neil Armstrong landing on the moon and for this area to be preserved is an absolute treasure. Sure, it's mostly a draw for aviation buffs but for your wife and kids it has an awesome panoramic view of the Outer Banks. There is a bronze life-sized statue capturing the moment at the back base of the monument and a perfect replica that was donated inside the museum.

Being originally from the birthplace of the first bicycle and car made this a must see for first in flight. The view and information is awesome

We visited on the day after a winter storm. We were the only visitors there, The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating.

This is a very informative attraction pertaining to the Wright Brothers' flight. It's a small attraction so kids won't be overwhelmed.

small museum, but it is well worth the time to listen to the 45 minute presentation. Lots of additional information on placards hung around the walls. Older children and adults will enjoy it much more than young children
