The visitor center has everything you would expect from a visitor center and one surprise. They have an electric vehicle (EV) charging station in the parking lot on the left side of the building. I was amazed to see this. Great job for placing a charging station here.
A lot less crowded than the other visitor centers in the Smoky Mountains. The staff was so friendly and the forest ranger pointed out multiple things that we weren't aware of. We enjoyed the proximity to the river and the cabin displays that were at the visitor center. There were elk that just walked out of the woods and were eating right in front of us. It was a great experience. Next time we want to walk the trail next to the river I'm sure it will be as nice as everything else at this visitor center
Great little stop with some cool exhibits about life long ago. They have many people on staff to discuss the area and make suggestions. They have a kids program (possibly summertime only) with some cool activities multiple events per day (looking for salamanders was a muddy fun time).
This small center has shed loads of tourist information. The staff are very knowledgable and helpful. There is free coffee and popcorn, and this can be enjoyed whilst sitting in rocking chairs on the verandah, overlooking the Occanaluftee river, where we were able to observe humming birds at the feeders.
We stopped here the first day in Cherokee. We received helpful information to help us enjoy our stay. We were also able to purchase tickets to the museum, theater, and village in one stop. The workers were very friendly and helpful. They answered all our questions and even gave extra suggestions that our sons would like to do while we were there. If you are visiting Cherokee this is a must stop place!
This will give any info for places to see and things to do,plus the restrooms were clean. The grounds are interesting.
Great info and friendly staff. This is definately the place to start when you are visiting Cherokee.
If you are planning a visit or are passing through contact them for any information on Cherokee; the people or the town! They have just about any answer to your question & if not they'll find out!
Wanted a copy of the BlueRidge Parkway Guide, its a must for anyone travelling the Great Smokies and BlueRidge Parkway. Lots of information available , very friendly staff, offering free coffee too. A good place to visit to get the local info
Of all the places you could come across in the Smokies this Visitor's Center was extremely helpful and even above and beyond that. With live entertainment from the local Chief even who would welcome you into the area with song and dance. This Visitor Center is worth the few minutes to help you get to know the area better.
A little hard to locate......but it is there.... good parking.... knowledgeable STAFF...
Locally run and no question goes unanswered. Not your typical tourist info center.
The Cherokee story and way of life teaches wisdom, grace, cooperation, respect that we need today.
There are two visitor centres in town. Neither seems to be manned permanently. Both have bathroom facilities and parking shared with other adjacent organisations. We popped in both at the start of a week's stay in the area. Both had a good supply of local literature, not all of which was available at both of them.
