We visited here on a Saturday and they were packed with two bus loads of young people out for a wine-time. When we pulled up, we saw a couple of girls sitting on the steps apparently on the verge of passing out and when we went in, these folks were so drunk I doubt they knew where they were. They were buying wines by the bottle, having them opened and drinking straight from the bottles. It was one big frat party. The tasting room is notthat large and unfortunately, our visit was not very enjoyable because of the raucous behavior of the large group that was there. I'm all in favor of having a good time, but there is a time and place and public drunkeness is not one of them. I felt sorry for the bus drivers who had to haul them back to wherever they came from.
Small growth vineyard with tasty product. Very good website for pre-travel visit and hospitable staff on site. Where comfortable shoes should you plan to wander. We did and it was a fun afternoon!
When we pulled up at Brandon Hills Vineyards, I wasn't expecting the pleasant surprise that this small venue offered. The tasting room had a comfortable feel, the staff was outstanding & the outdoor seating was nice. Brandon Hills carries some nice wines, well worth the trip & time to visit.
As many of you know by now, the largest concentration of wineries in the State of North Carolina are confined to the Piedmont region, specifically the Yadkin Valley region where some world class varieties are grown and produced. And you'll run into a wide variety of vineyards - some very small, some huge, etc. It's all part of the fun when getting involved with "winery hopping." One winery that we came upon was the Brandon Hills Winery in Yadkinville, NC. It's an unassuming little place that is very tastefully laid out and has developed quite a following. The owners had started this winery as a hobby project and it's popularity has proven to be even more than they had expected. The owner is an Airline Pilot by Trade, and I believe (I could be wrong here, but based on my recollection) his wife is a Nurse. Both are very personable folks who really enjoy running the day-to-day operations.OK, now on to the wines. In a nutshell - superb wines, in particular, one of their dry reds - a Barbera that just knocked our socks off. This Barbera is sure to please those of you who love Pinot Noir varietals - it's dry, very smooth, with an excellent bouquet and a smooth finish. We wound up purchasing a case of their Barbera and it disappeared in no time as we kept reaching for that bottle during various meals. Other reds like their Raptor Red, are sure to please also. To be honest, we enjoyed all of their wines and our visit was most welcoming and pleasing. So the next time you're in the Yadkin Valley region, and you're conducting a series of winery visits, be sure to include the Brandon Hills Vineyards in that itinerary and by all means, taste their reds, in particular their Barbera.I've uploaded some photos of our visit there during February.
