hawksnest snow tubing and zipline

Hawksnest was our first experience snow tubing ever and we had a great time. It was suggested to us by a friend to go there. He also suggested that we buy our tickets in advance because they sell out quick for the time slots so if you show up and buy at the door you may have to wait 2hrs or more for your time block to tube. So we bought ours online the day before and it was really easy to get right in. We tubed for a while then spent time at the bar on the 3rd floor at the top of the building and it was a nice cozy place. Our only complaint was that the drinks were a little pricey for what they were. $12 for a double top shelf liquor drink was a bit much for a small bar at a snow tubing venue. We paid a dollar less than that the night before at a high end restaurant for the same drink. However other than that, we had a fun time, the staff was very friendly all around from the ticket counter to the guys on the slopes watching over everyone. I would recommend this to young and old alike!

March 7th 2015. I went with a large group of 27 people - ages ranged from 4yo to 61 years old. We all enjoyed ourselves. There are 4 huge slopes and all 4 were a little different. Some faster and some with a little curve etc. We went at 6pm and the slopes were a little slow at 6....once it got below freezing and the ice got packed down, we were then going really fast....by 7:15pm, we could really tell a difference in how the slopes were in comparison to when we first started at 6pm. They went faster.... Be advised that you will use A LOT of energy walking around with that huge tube. They only have two magic carpets...the other slops you have to walk back up....UGGGGGH. I was exhausted and I feel that I am in average shape.An hour and 45 is plenty of time if it's not a lot of lines...we did not experience any long lines at the 6pm time.We went to Nicks to eat afterwards. They had plenty of seating for large groups....food was decent as well.Have fun and enjoy!

This is our second time at Hawksnest. We debated about trying some place new - Jonas Ridge, Sugar Mountain, Moonshine Mountain, etc. but we went back here because we had such a great experience. We were a little worried about the fact that it was so warm - not a flake of snow on the ground anywhere but our tubing experience was still great. It was great to have so much fun and not be freezing to death. The lines weren't too crowded and it was very organized as usual.

We tubed two days - Saturday, February 28 at 10 a.m. and Sunday, March 1 at 10 a.m. I would definitely always suggest the early time because the crowds are less and the parking is easier. We had a great time on Saturday but Sunday was a disappointment due to the warmer weather and slush. We departed early because we were tired of our runs ending less than half way down the lane. I understand that Hawksnest could not control the weather, but could they have blown snow overnight and then groomed the tubing lanes? At the very least, grooming the lanes prior to the start of the day may have helped a bit. I really felt bad for the many people coming in for the 12 p.m. run - it couldn't have been fun.

Our family and three other families enjoyed tubing at Hawksnest on Sunday, 03/01/15. Although the slopes were a bit slushy, the kids had a fabulous time. The slopes were slushy because there had been a bit of rain earlier in the morning and the temperatures had risen to the mid-upper 30s (Fahrenheit). There is nothing that Hawksnest can do about the weather so, although it would have been more fun if the slopes were slippery, we made the best of it. We made our session reservations online a few weeks in advance since past experience taught us that early sessions could sell out. Ally Hensley did a wonderful job and graciously accommodated some reservation changes due to illness.

My adult kids and I tried tubing for the first time after a day of Skiing on Sugar Mtn. one day prior. I guess our expectations were too high. We did expect a fast tube ride down a packed slope. Most every run required walking between 1/4-1/2 of the slope to get to the bottom. :( . I guess I should change that to EVERY run....we never (Mostly at each other and making fun of the poor choice of activity for the day.) We will not go back...and it is NOT worth $31 each...A lot of the attendants on duty spent more time on their cell phones and talking with each other rather than making the paying customer's stay more fun.

Definitely worth the money. Tubing hills were great. My only advice is get there early, parking is tight and the parking lot is small!

Went to the 12pm session which was sold out. I feared the lines would be terrible but we got a lot of tubing in for that hour and 45 minute time slot. We got there about 30 minutes early -- by the time you park, turn in your tickets, etc. you need that buffer and that helps a lot. I'm thinking some get there 10 minutes before hand and end up not tubing until 15 minutes into their designated time slot. Not only do you miss out on 15 minutes but if you get ready on time the wait time the first two runs are way shorter. Bottom line -- planning and execution goes a long way for this event vs just showing at your designed time slot. Enjoy!

Our family of 4 (girls age 9 and 12) had a wonderful time snow tubing on February 21st. Our first time in the area, it took longer than we anticipated to get there because of the fresh snow and ice but we planned to arrive early. I had called a few weeks before as the tubing was part of a birthday gift for my oldest daughter. They were super polite and answered all of my questions. The 1hr 45min time window was just the right amount of time. Older kids could maybe do to 2 sessions. It was really cold and snowy during our session. We seemed to go faster each time down the hill. There were smaller kids there that seemed to enjoy their time as well. We were staying in Asheville about 1.5 hours to the south.

A group of 16 of us went for the 6 pm session on 2/27/15. Parking was a breeze. No charge as I had read in some reviews. Having skied Hawksnest I had forgotten that the bathrooms were quite small and changing clothes was a bit of a challenge. Changing are would be nice. The only wait was for certain runs on the slope closest to the Lodge. For some time a large part of our group had the far runs to ourselves. First few runs at the beginning of the session were a bit slow but like any area with sledding the snow gets better the more runs you make. Snow tubing runs are not like bobsled runs. Perhaps that is where all the negative reviews are coming from.I will go back and have already discussed taking the Scout Troop with our Scout Master.Staff were friendly and helped push all night.

Sessions cost $31 per person and are overbooked. $5 parking fee (parking area is not marked which creates 3-4 foot spaces between cars and hard to find a spot to park). Due to sessions being overbooked long waits in line to tube the main slope. It took 25 minutes the first time and 15 minutes the second time. The slopes were not groomed properly which resulted in only being able to tube 1/2 to 3/4 down before walking down the remainder of the slope. I spoke with the owner regarding the long lines, parking, and slope condition. He rolled his eyes at me, dismissed my concerns & said my expectations were too high. They are more concerned with making a buck than ensuring a good experience for their customers.

During our stay in Boone we brought our kids (8 and 6) here to do some tubing. We came the day after it snowed 1-3 inches. We arrived early and got in during the first time slot. The first time slot was very uncrowded. The kids practically had the slope to themselves. The staff was helpful and friendly. Our kids were afraid to go down by themselves at first, but by the end of the session they were tubing alone. We brought a picnic lunch and the staff allowed us to eat in their dining room. We were the only ones in the room. Our kids loved every minute of it!

Best place in the Boone area to zip line. It's located in Seven Devils between Boone and Banner Elk. It's reasonably priced and it has the longest lines on the east coast. The guides are super friendly and knowledgable and take there time explaining everything. Even my 8 year old had a blast riding with one of the guides. I can't say enough good about this place!!!

We had a blast taking the kids tubing, and me being the big kid I am had a blast. We will be back. SOON!!!!

This was suggested to me by 2 friends we went to visit. I am glad I made a reservation and went. It was fun!!!!!!!!! I highly recommend this to everyone!
