Excellent views, peaceful and quiet, nice ride to location. There are hiking trail to follow if you are up to it.
We're not much for these types of attractions. However, we are local residents and decided to give it a go. Wow! You won't be disappointed either. There are wonderful views towards the west and plenty of space for the whole family
Lovely overlook all the way into Tennessee. In the fall, the views are breathtaking. Easy drive to reach. Walking trails around the top. Very enjoyable.
My parents and I visited Jump Off Rock today. The views from the rock are absolutely spectacular! We spent about 20 minutes at the rock. We will return to do the three different trails. You can see the panoramic views without taking any of the trails. It is a short walk from the parking lot to the overlook. We did not stay because it was very cold/windy and it was starting to rain. I have heard that is beautiful for sunsets. I highly recommend this place! Please note that Google Maps GPS currently places it at the wrong location. It is actually 3.7+ miles further down the road on the Laurel Park Hwy. There are signs once you pass the golf course. I reported this to Google.
We met some friends for lunch in Hendersonville. We spent a few hours having lunch and then shopping. We headed back to Highlands but took a detour suggested by a friend. We traveled down 5th avenue as far west as we could go and then followed the signs up a mountain to Jump Off Rock. The street terminates at a beautiful little park and very easy access to a viewing area that gives you a 180 degree view of the area. We happened to be there at the peak of the Fall color and really enjoyed the view. There are several hiking trails available but we were on a schedule and will have to check them out next time.
We wanted to take a drive to Hendersonville from Saluda and looked up some sights worth seeing. Jump Off Rock popped up and we looked forward to checking out the views from the mountaintop. The winding park road takes you to the top and a parking area. It's a little bit of a drive, but very pretty. There is no admission. :) There were just a few other people there when we visited and we got all the pictures we wanted. My boys wanted to take a hike so we did two of the trails. They were clearly marked and the paths were not overgrown. Also not too challenging and it was a well spent 30-40 minutes. We're very glad we put Jump Off Rock on our list!!
Worth a visit.due to weather we weren't able to get to Chimney Rock and I was quite dissapointed, so when we came to hotel, they advised us to visit this place - my mood got better right away. Amazing views! We also decided to hike one of the trails. Loved it!
A great place to go for sunsets and early in the morning when the mountains are covered with layers of fog. On a clear day you can see Asheville about 25 miles away (as the crow flies). Driving the short road to Jump-off rock we say wild turkey, deer and a ground-hog.
we took sandwiches and had a nice family picnic. free. fun photo opportunity, beautiful drive, take a bag if kids get car sick, winding slow travel roads.
A quick, winding drive up the mountain is so worth it to take in the amazing views of the area. There are no crowds, a few small trails and a 360 degree view, which is breathtaking. Not to mention, the local folklore of the place, which just adds to the experience - legend has it that a young Cherokee Indian maiden jumped to her death from Jump Off Rock, after receiving word that her love had died in battle.
Great views- free. Very refreshing. You see some very beautiful homes on the way up there. Wouldn't go in bad weather, road very winding.
The park is so well kept, so peaceful and quiet. The view is of the mountains is fabulous! We visit this place often, and take ALL of our friends from out of town here! The fall is our favorite time of year with the colors putting on a show for all to see for miles! And...... Many many years ago, this is where I got my first kiss from my husband! This is a special place!
Drive straight up along 5th Ave (Laurel Park Hwy) to the end and you will be treated with an amazing overlook and some nice little hiking trails. Perfect for a family outing or a romantic picnic!
Beautiful view of the Blue Ridge and Pisgah mountain ranges. From Hendersonville "town area" it's about 20 minutes to get up to the rock. It's pretty though, and there are a few nice, short, loop trails you can hike. It can be very steep on the trails so maybe not for kids or elders. Where the right kind of shoes.
What can you say about a rock? Well its actually a small park in Laurel Park and the best part may just be the drive up from Hendersonville. The road winds and weaves offering attractive views of homes, gardens and vistas. At the summit you reach Jump Off Rock park with a few benches, grassy areas and a spectacular view. Take a picnic and spend a little time after the drive up. Take note on the way up (or down) of the turn off to Poplar Lodge...a rustic restaurant known for great steaks, lobster tails and a huge salad bar. Haven't eaten there in several years but it used to be fantastic and I would rate it worth a try. Just remember after coctails and wine, you still have to drive down the mountain road.
