The Folly was decorated for Christmas and it was beautiful. We went on a self-guided tour which was wonderful. We were able to spend as much time as we wanted in each room looking at everything and then followed the signs to the next room. Fun!!!
A fun attraction to visit when in the Kernersville area. Nicely restored. Interesting history about the builder and his family.
It was beautifully decorated. Not too expensive either - tickets were only $10. My printer had issues and the person who checked us in was able to look up our tickets online which was great. Overall, very nice and a good time.
The story of the "Folly" is a story about this interesting town in the middle of North Carolina's Piedmont Triad. To visit and tour is to know something special about the town, its founders and its development. Do not miss an opportunity to visit.
We went to see the house decorated for Christmas. It was WONDERFUL! The house itself is a little strange, odd shaped rooms and halls, but oh what fun! Back in it's day, I can only imagine! The painted ceilings and walls, the turned woodwork. The house is still undergoing restoration, so some of the plasterwork is in bad shape. There is nothing standard about the size of the halls and if you are on the large size (which I am) there are a few halls that are too small for passage. (Time to go on that diet). If you are over 5'8" you will have to bend down in the upstairs rooms (Low ceilings). It was still wonderful and great to view and I would go again, several times.
Great place to visit with the family and friends. Kernersville history starts at this place. The staff do a wonderful job taking you back in time. Don't miss the Saturday puppet show!
I have visited this neat house more than once. It just gets better. So many interesting things to see in this house. I find it inspiring. Be sure to watch the short video at the little house where you get the tickets to tour the house. It is well done and gives some good history. The tour is self guided, and some of the passages are narrow and steps can be steep. Wear good shoes! It's a little disorienting, but I like that about it! Worth the ticket price and the time!
I have lived close to the Folly all my life and have never taken the time to stop in. I was very impressed with the building and the guide was very friendly and knew all about the history.I thought they could make it a little more affordable.
I have been many times and appreciate it more each time. Almost more eccentric each time. Fun to take the kids and have them read and learn about the history. Definitely a must see.
If you're in the Kernersville area during the weekend, take a couple of hours and visit this unique old home.
Korner's Folly could use a wealthy donor to restore the beauty and unique features of this historic home. It was lovely to see it decorated for Christmas.
Yes, it is an amazing house. Lots of interesting history and nooks and crannies. It is not on a very large or impressive scale but gives you an intimate look at the family and life style of the period.
This house was built in 1880 to be used as designer Jule Gilmer Korner portfolio. Who needs to looks through a folder of pictures when you can walk through a house and pick from all the different designs. The floors are buckled in places so be careful not to trip. There are openings in walls of one room to allow you to look down on the floor below you or into a hallway (haven't figured that one out yet). Some ceilings are so low you can't stand up straight and watch out for the narrow doorways and stairwells. It's a strange experience that will leave you smiling and at times scratching your head. It gets very hot in there so I recommend going during the cooler months.
this is a great place to go to see an interesting and historic house . It is fun every time I have taken visitors there-and when they have an event at the location it is more fun. Wish they would have more special events on the grounds!
Piece of history what can't be missed in small town of Kernersville, hope you will enjoy as much as me and my family. Have ayes and ears open you will learn a lot.
