Great place for small kids! There is lots of stations for kids to choose from as well as two levels. There is not a food vendor or concession stand but you can bring a lunch or snack and eat at their tables. There are couple vending machines. However there is only a couple tables. The only negative would be its gets really crowded with kids on field trips. So go in morning or late in afternoon to avoid crowds. You can call front desk and ask if a school is visiting.
Great place to learn and play. We have also been to Edventure Childrens in Columbia and Marbles is a fantastic value and the exhibits seem better maintained.
Visited this location with my Grand kids after eating in Cafe 100 just down the block. Parking is in back and free on Sunday.Kids up to 7 or 8 will be thrilled by the multitude of activities. Fire Engines, race cars,Doctor and Veterinary offices, Diner and Supermarket it doesn't stop. And there are sing along shows also.
I have taken my grandchildren to this fun spot on many occasions. It is pretty creative and educational but really disguised as fun. If you will use it a bunch it is best to get a membership as it can be expensive for singular uses.
Both times our granddaughters came from out of state to visit, we came here. All day enjoyment for younger children. Kids over 10 would be better suited to the discovery in Charlotte. Water play for the very young, going to the airport, try out the firetruck, take a wander through a submarine, walk a pirate ship, be a mechanic and try their hand at being a vet for awhile, there is so much more here that I didn't even mention. Expect to spend the whole day here and everyone comes home relaxed and happy. Very enjoyable.
My 5-year-old and 22-month-old equally enjoyed this facility. If your children enjoy water play there is an area specifically for this, young children can sit in the built-in high chairs at the water table. They will get wet, I would bring an extra shirt, maybe pants. They have aprons, but 2 and under will find a way to soak themselves. If your child is sensitive to noise, it may be difficult, it is somewhat loud inside with all the children running around... some of the cars, bank drive-through machine, features, etc make loud noises that scared my 22-month-old. We purchased a family membership for $130.00 and will continue to visit this place, especially during the cold months.
Discovery Place Kids in Huntersville is a great place to take babies up til 8-9 years old....maybe even 10. Don't really know cause our 6 year old is out oldest. Anyways, from puppet shows to hands on exhibits, this place has it all. Very cool interactive children's museum that boasts it's own Fire Truck for kids to play with as well as a model plane, play kitchen, trains, water stations and more. We have renewed our family membership for the last 5 years and haven't been disappointed!!! It's a Huntersville must see for families with young kids.
My 3 year old granddaughter loves Discovery Place Kids. The different play centers are wonderful. Kids can be a farmer, shopper, fireman, EMT, dancer, race car driver, etc. The centers are very realistic. There are things from the very young to older kids that would peak their interest. There is a huge craft room with all types of materials for kids to make their on creation. This is truly education meets fun. If you live near by the yearly membership is the way to go, but it's worth the $ even for a one time trip.
There are many different areas for children to play in, from crawlers to bigger kids. The membership is definitely the way to go if you are local. Afternoon hours seem to be less crowded, and since it isn't huge, the crowds make a big difference. I also wish they were open later than 5pm, but we still have plenty of time to enjoy it.
We recently went to the museum with 4 adults and 5 kids for a total cost of $80. We don't live in the area to buy a season pass so for visitors that can be a bit expensive for 3 hours of play. The kids had fun, there are a lot of activities and areas for the kids to explore. Its also a very clean place. We observed the workers temporarily closing areas so they could be cleaned and sanitized.
A great place to take a small child to play and learn. There are small learning sessions presented during the day by staff that add to the fun. Our children were so excited that they ran from activity to activity and it is necessary for us to have one one one supervision or it is easy to lose track of a child for a minute. Be prepared with a picnic in the car because they do not have food or drink available for purchase.
We took our 2 and a half year old grandson on a rainy summer day. The place was jam-packed with children, parents and grandparents. There was plenty of room, though, and everybody seemed to be having a good time. Our grandson loved the firetruck and the airplane in particular. I loved how the workings of a small town were right there for the kids to experience, from the veterinarian to the grocery store to the airport. There was a boat too. There are shows for the kids to watch. There are so many places to play--there's even a pirate ship and submarine! We'll take our grandson again.
I took my kids to Discovery Place Kids for the firs time after wanting to do it for a while and I'm glad we did. We got there right at 9am when they opened because it was during the summer and I knew this place would be a zoo by lunch time and I was RIGHT! By 10am the place was crowded which is expected being so hot out and summer vacation. I had an almost 3 year old w me and a barely 1 year old who didn't walk so they only charged me for my toddler and myself. I definitely recommend you kids to be able to walk to visit this place, otherwise there's not much for them to play with (unless you're okay w them crawling on the floor). There are all sorts of things to do. The kids can play w cars, water, trains; they can pretend to fix a car, visit a grocery store, play doctor or vet, play in a restaurant; visit an underwater submarine or a boat; they can climb on the jungle gym, draw and color.... etc! The parking is nice because it is a garage and your car doesn't get hot.As far as snacks, you better bring some food for your kids because the only thing they have are vending machines. There's a few restaurants near by but you have to leave the place and come back with food. They have a tiny "break room" so you can bring a lunch from home. They also have outdoor tables but not much shade. The only two reasons I did not give this place 5 stars was the lack of lunch space for the kids to sit down and take a snack or at least some more outdoor seating with umbrellas. I have kids with food allergies and even if they are not severe (no need for epi pen) I don't want them eating other kids snacks while playing in the museum. The other reason is the price for the adults. I feel like $10 for kids is fine but at least give the parents a break, maybe $8 or something like that. I think they may do it because one kid may bring their entire adult family so maybe limit the "free" or discounted adults per kid and then charge the full price for the extra adults. I know you can get the family annual pass but it's still expensive for those who don't live too close.I would also love to see some sort of tag for each kid and someone closely monitoring the door to make sure the kid leaving matches the parent leaving with the kid. There were so many kids at one point that you needed to be watching yours like crazy to make sure you knew where they were at all times.
I went today and saw that their prices are $10.00 per person for everyone over one years old. That includes parents. I didn't like that parents had to pay full price and when I asked about it the cashier told me not to beat her up about it and told me I was being rude. I said something to the effect of "Why do parents have to pay when they aren't doing anything and you guys don't have chairs for parents to sit in or relax?" I thought it was a valid question to ask why parents had to pay when all they were really doing is watching their children play. My kids are 6 and 12 so I don't have to get in there and play with them like I did when they were younger. The cashier said that the idea of the parents paying the full price was that the parents are supposed to be in there interacting with their kids and playing with them. That's valid for a two or three year old but for my kids not so much. The place itself is fun for kids but they haven't really made any changes or upgrades in the last few years. I won't go back again as the cashier was so rude. Either she was very unprofessional or this place does not train their employees to handle questions of this nature. There are many other places to go in Charlotte that are cheaper and have staff members who are actually grateful that you are helping them keep their job by spending your money taking your kids there.
Even though it is a bit of a drive from Charlotte, I recommend this over Discovery Place for smaller children. Hours of entertainment, cute puppet show. I would go early... We were there when it opened at 9am and it didn't get super crowded until around 11am, which is when we decided to leave. We will definitely come back on our next visit to Charlotte.
