We stopped here on our way to Durham from Richmond. It was basically a midpoint between the two cities. The staff is very friendly. Its one of the state of NC historic sites so admission is free. The visitor center has a nice 13 minute video on the area.

Somehow I had the impression that this historic site was only 1 or 2 buildings, but there are several, along with a museum in the visitor's center and a movie. The tour guides were EXCELLENT! Very informative and personable - in fact, everyone we encountered there during our visit were extremely nice. At first we figured we'd be there for an hour...we stayed for three. Just be aware that there is really nothing else to do in the town of Halifax, so plan your trip accordingly.

If you go south-west of Roanoke Rapids for about 25-45 minutes you will run into the Historical Halifax Museum. It is about colonial days in Halifax County. In the Beginning I watched a 13-15 minute movie to get an idea of what you were going to learn. Then they take you to old Historical Homes where famous people used to live. You got an idea of what their homes looked like and how they lived.The reason they created this Museum is because of the Halifax resolves. If you look on the North Carolinian Flag the date on the bottom is when the Halifax Resolves was signed. This piece of history is now forgotten which is very sad. The people that work here are very kind and loving. I hope you can come and visit. You can use mapquest to help find the Absolute Location.
