This is a must for families visiting Sioux Falls. Plan on spending much of an entire day playing, learning and exploring the several levels of interactive visits at this amazing site. Unbelievable AAA discount makes it affordable. So much fun!
Beautiful building. We to see a performance in the Sommervold Hall of the Pavillion. A beautiful theater in itself. The ushers were polite and helpful. There is so much to see in this place, We only saw a couple small displays in the lobby when we went to the box office. So all this review is about is the MARY W. SOMMERVOLD HALL. Beautiful. Large. Classy but there was a lot of casual dress which was accepted. We happened to get excellent parking on the street but there is also a parking garage across the street.
The Pavilion is a great spot to spend an afternoon or even entire day! Between the science center, the art center, the concert halls, cafe and cinedome theatre there are many things an entire family can enjoy. Whether going as an individual, couple, family or group, the Pavilion is a must do when in Sioux Falls!
That was one totally awesome big theater!! Worth waiting to b toured thru there by a lady who went to this former high school which was converted to the art and science building. Took the art tour which need at least 2 hours to go through. The volunteers r a wealth of information and so enthusiastic!

Hi 2ndmomma, Thanks for sharing your experiences with the Washington Pavilion on Trip Advisor! We love hearing about our patron's experiences and what brought them to the Pavilion. You're right; much of our building exterior is made with Sioux Quartizite, which is two points below the hardness of a diamond. That's pretty tough. :)We hope to see you again at the Washington Pavilion!KatieDigital Marketing Specialist
What a great place to visit and so much of interest to see and learn! Bring the kids but plan on learning a lot yourself!
I love what the City fathers have done with this lovely stone building that I spent my high school days in long ago. A visit to this Pavillion of Arts and Science is truly an experience.
We had tickets to see the Jersey Boys at the Washington Pavilion. The theater is very lovely with comfortable seating. It was so nice to see how they have renovated this building. We didn't get to see any of the other parts of the pavilion so I would like to go there again.
I visited the visual arts museum with a friend as we had heard that there was an exhibition of Toulouse- Lautrec. Wow! How lucky for this facility to be able to hold a rarely seen collection. This place is impressive from the lobby upwards as there was a cascade of 4000 origami cranes taking up the area by the staircase. Stunning! There were plenty of smaller galleries and they housed a show of exquisite and artistic quilts, which were really sewn 'paintings' . A super facility with welcoming staff and quality exhibits. Well worth $10.
This is great for kids but maybe not for teenagers. We go a few times a year and my kids never get sick of it
The Pavilion has special art showings that are fun to go to. The Cinedome is fun to watch special showings just like an IMAX theater. The science center is fun even for adults.
This is a large science discovery center. We went with my 8 year old son and he enjoyed a lot of the exhibits. There were bones and dinosaurs, things with lights and shadows, fitness, gravity, and sound. There were a few interactive things that were broken with no sign, making me think maybe they'd been broken for a while unfortunately. The place was well lit though and engaging and lots of different things for kids to take part in. We thought the Kirby Science Discovery Center at Washington Pavilion was a pretty impressive place.
