The team of Andrew, Levi and Katie trained us well and ushered us through 3 days of gorgeous paddling. They knew how to work the tides and helped us just enough to give us a solid foundation and a sense of independence. Their knowledge of the flora, fauna and history of the area is unmatched. We were blessed with "merry weather" which would have helped Lewis and Clark a whole lot. I highly recommend this company!
First time even getting close to a kayak. Everyone was very kind and helpful. Our instructors were Andrew, Levi, and Katie.Brought their own skills knowledge and entertainment to the water. The equipment was top notch. Before we began everything was discussed, safety rules, the equipment and use. What their roles as instructors were.Encouraging me as nervous first timer with a number of summers under my belt. They never let us out of their site! Someone always close at hand.By the end of the first day I was very comfortable and self assured. A great experience. I will do this again and recommend them any time.
Katie was a great guide. We took the Newcomer's 3 hour tour of the north side of the Columbia River. September is a great time to visit.
This is a great company, offering personal and group kayaking tours. The guides are experts and throughly knowledgable about the flora and fauna of the Columbia River. They provided an exquisite introduction to a group of Road Scholars, all of whom left richer for the experience. Mark, Andrew, and Levi provided professionalism, care, and warmth throughout our trip, sharing their love of the area and its many wonders. Thank you all!
A wonderful setting with very experienced guides and a good selection of boats. No dislikes. We will return.
Thank you, Levi for a wonderful morning of kayaking. We traveled in the main channel with the tide and returned thru the refuge. Excellent instruction and quality equipment.
We had such a good time with a "re-introduction" to kayaking at Columbia River Kayaking. We did a private tour for two of us with Mark. He is a good teacher and provided plenty of instruction so that we felt comfortable. He included lots of interesting information about natural history of the area. The equipment was in good shape and the office staff are friendly. This seems like a company made up of people who love what they are doing. We are looking forward to coming back to do another trip.
We had a great week on the river with Columbia River Kayaking. Andrew and Mark were amazingly knowledgeable about the area, history, natural history, plants and wildlife. Each trip was a kayaking adventure combined with a learning experience. The equipment was excellent and the guides were eager to please. Even when the weather turned to cold and rain, our safety and comfort were always the first concern. On the sunny days, the magnificent scenery, majestic river, and abundant wildlife made the trip a memorable experience. Highly recommended.
My granddaughter had never been kayaking before it was such a wonderful day seeing thing and learning about the area while relaxing on the the water.
I've kayaked in Canada, Wyoming, and 4 southern states and have not encountered guides as well versed in their knowledge of their locale as Andrew and Mark. You also get excellent equipment and scenic paddles on the river. Tough to beat!
we did the price island tour (3+ hours) with our family of four in two double kayaks. the equipment was in great shape, the tour was just the right length, and our guide, katie, was fantastic. do watch out for the standard tour guide stories about floating deer and deadly blue heron, though :Pthe company was very friendly when i called and even allowed us to book the shorter tour on a day when it was not scheduled. we will definitely visit if we're in the area again and try one of the longer tours.
Carbon fiber paddles, kayaks with ergonomic seating, hatch covers that really fit, new high quality, comfortable PFDs and skirts. And the best, most knowledgeable, engaged and humorous guides you will be privileged to meet. Their knowledge of both kayaking skills, planning and safety and the natural environment, culture and history of the area is unsurpassed. You will not be disappointed.
The guides are the best ever! Andrew and Mark are skilled and unflappable. Andrew, especially, is a wonderful storyteller, very knowledgeable about history and the environment. The equipment is in great shape too.
I told friends in Chicago that the goal of my trip was to Kayak the Columbia River. They thought I had lost my senses. Not the case. The decision turned out to be an outstanding adventure with competent, skilled and knowledgeable leader/ guides/educators. Owners Andrew and Mark did an outstanding job. I'll be back next year and hopefully every year moving forward.
My husband and I have kayaked on our own for 9 years or so. Our guide, Mark Whitaker, said it best, "people can usually figure out how to make a boat go where they want it to go". But we want to get better, we really want to do some expeditions where we may encounter currents, wind, waves, etc... So we called Columbia River Kayaking, and met Mark. He took us out and assessed where we were, and what we could do to get better. Not only that we had a fabulous day!
