My host grand parents worked at this Tulip Town and it is stunning place to visit! It is so beautiful to see thousands of tulips. Bring great cameras and take lots of gorgeous photos!
The views of the fields are a wonderful sight; you can stop here to get a close look at very large tulips in many colors I'm sure most have never laid eyes on before. This stop allows you to get some food and a look at a bulb purchasing catalog
We loved our visit to Tulip Town. Lovely place to visit. Important to start early in the day. (9:00 AM)
We've been wanting to visit the Tulip Festival at Roozengarde and Tulip Town for ages and finally decided to go this year. We went on a sunny Saturday and we hit major traffic congestion coming right off the I-5. With traffic moving at a snail's pace when it did move, we took almost an hour and and a half till we reached Tulip Town. There was parking available but people had parked all along every street and each car had a ticket under their wiper!! The tulips were absolutely gorgeous in so many amazing colors and we took hundreds of photographs. We were prepared to face the same congestion while leaving, but it wasn't as bad. Took us about 45 minutes to get out onto the freeway. I think we'll pick a weekday next time and maybe when it's slightly overcast to avoid the traffic snarls.
We visited Roozengarde and Tulip Town. While Tulip Town is much more commercialized (face painting, multiple shops), it offers a wagon ride around the fields. The driver stops for photo ops at several places where the color seems to go on forever. While the tourist brochure said the ride was free, they charged $2 each on top of the $5 entry fee. It was well worth it. I wanted great photos without having to walk in the mud, and I got them! Important tip: Take the blanket they offer when boarding the wagon. You will not regret it!
What a great place! First, let me tell you that there are several growers in this area so you can see plenty of flowers, but and this is a big but, Tulip Town is the only grower that is not a wholesale distributor. What this means is that the others have large fields of only one species, albeit perhaps 6-8 colors total, but all in different fields. Tulip Town is strictly a retail operation and offers up to 75 varieties of every color, shape, and combination imaginable. And they are mixed (several rows of the same variety) in close proximity for an incredible, colorful display. There is a large structure with fresh cut displays, shops, food venders, and art. And don't miss the Tractor rides thru the fields - a steal at $2 a head. I could go on but you get my drift - this is the only place you need to stop - it's fabulous.
There are two main attractions during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival and this is one of the two. The gardens are not as large or well landscaped but the fields are always easy to access. Parking is usually plentiful too. They have an extensive indoor display as well.
So we were in Seattle for spring break and lucked out in being here at the same time as the Tulip festival. For a month the gardens are open for you to wander around and take life enhancing pictures of flowers. There are two main venues in the area; Tulip town and Rozengaarde. We drove into the area thinking we were going to one and ended at the other. Tulip town was started by Dutch immigrants so has that little bit of authenticity going for it. That and an obligatory windmill. We arrived into a large, well spaced car park with the promise of tulips in the distance. Must be less pleasant in the rain but so are most things. Entrance is $5 each which was a decent price for the effort, though the hideous portapotties after all these years show that there is a profit motive involved, somewhere.Inside there are a couple of gift shops selling stuff to litter your cupboards and some decently priced artworks. There's also a mural which is nearly finished with a history of tulips. There's a hideous little homemade model of the family's house from the old country which was made with love, if not talent.A coffee shop selling, well, coffee and overpriced ice cream is in the main undercover area. Outside there are enclosed areas showing off various identified varieties and, of course, the windmill. There's also a peace garden with various flags, like a tripadvisor captcha site.In the distance there are the fields which are layered in multi colors. As you enter the fields, there is a platform to give a raised perspective of the flowers. It is truly spectacular and beautiful to see. You can wander round them, taking pictures, carefully ignoring the notices not to take photos in the gardens or you can get a tractor to ferry you around them. Unless you are infirm, spectacularly fat, or just plain lazy, walk around them, enjoying the gradations changes.Well worth the pilgrimage.
Tulip Town is a great place to visit. We found it to be less busy than some of the other fields. I think the fields at Roozengaarde and Tulip town are comparable but the gardens here are not nearly as spectacular as at Roozengaarde, on the other hand, I find the shopping area to be much more accessible and not so crowded! Either stop is great for seeing tulips!
This is another mandatory stop on the tulip trail. The staff is pretty friendly and the displays are very nice. However, it has become a bit over commercialized for my tastes. Others enjoys the crowds and other gimmicks. To eah his own.
- A great variety of beautiful flowers- The hall with the painted murals was less than appealing though.
The Skagit Valley Tulip Festival is beautiful, but challenging because of the traffic. We found the line at Tulip Town shorter than that at Roosengarde. The tulips were spectacular and we lucked out by having beautiful weather. We took the tractor ride around the tulips which allowed us to see all the varieties. It is well worth the trip--but do check the traffic reports...it can be difficult to get information and the area around the festival is not suited for so many people. And take note: All the bathrooms are portapotties!
Another Tulip field filled with a dazzling display of flowers. Lots of people, good parking. I liked their large people tractors, which is something you will want to do if it is raining. Their flower display is very good. I will return.
Careful of what day you go. The crowds and traffic can be overwhelming. We went on a sunny Monday morning and the crowds here and at Roozengaarde were enormous. We walked through the fields here and enjoyed them and took many great pictures. The Roozengaarde fields are much bigger but the lineup and numbers in the field were a turnoff. Tulip Town is much nicer crowd wise and very friendly but you also need to see the gardens at Roozengaarde. On a sunny day go to Tulip Town and avoid the worst of the crowds. If you want to visit fields drive around the area and you you will find them in various locations and if you are polite and careful you can probably get in to see them.
Be prepared for a traffic nightmare on the weekend. It was a nice road trip though. I just wish there was so much more fields of tulips.
