While I don't have season tickets, I have been to the Rubicon over a dozen times and have never had a bad seat or seen a poor performance. Small, intimate theatre with comfortable seats, good sound and great vibe. Everyone connected with the Rubicon treats you like a VIP. You should really try it and see what I mean.
Rubicon has consistently delivered--and continues to provide --the Ventura County community world class theater. And for that I am eternally grateful. Their program is often daring and cutting edge yet it is seasoned with new plays and a few old favorites. If you live in Ventura County Rubicon also delivers. Until Rubicon showed up two decades ago we had to drive into downtown Los Angeles or Hollywood for great stage plays or musicals. The joy is they are oh, so close. And parking is comfortably steps away from their intimate theater. Productions are imaginative. Rubicon is a precious resource and deserves much kudos for delivering delightful plays with amazing consistency and much skill and professionalism. It's like having the West End of London theatrical experience on your own doorstep. . And did I mention they have wonderful children's programs featuring young talent weaned locally. Long may they reign!
This quaint little theatre, located in a converted church, puts on some really excellent productions, attraction really top tier performers and directors.
The Rubicon Theater continues to wow me. This small Equity playhouse in the city of Ventura has productions that rival L A and New York.in april, I saw "Love, Loss, and What I Wore", and it seemed to touch every woman in the house. There was much laughter and a few tears, but a thoroughly enjoyable hour and a half.If you can possibly see this show, go. Now
Do yourself a favor and go see this NEW PRODUCTION at The Rubicon. It is so funny, I laughed so much, I hurt afterward. I am a violinist so I saw many of the strange and unusual from out of my past, learning the trade. If you like Victor Borga you will love this comedy. If you were a music student as a child, this is the reward! The two pianists are brilliant. They take turns acting as master and student for incredible humor. It is heart felt and caring comedy. This is money well spent to have a GREAT TIME for an evening out. It is ok to bring kids and if they are studying music, so much the better. DON'T MISS THIS PRODUCTION!!!! I have been a seasonal subscriber for about seven years and have been impressed by the performances this small theater is able to put on every season. good quality theater
Got to see Conviction and it was pretty interested to say the least. While I'm not a buff of the theatre scene yet, places like this bring me back to the days of high school when we were able to view performances from the drama students.
A small theater and not a bad seat in the house.Came here last minute while attending the annual surf contest...Now each time I come to surf c-street, I'll probably stay and attend a show at The Rubicon.I have been to lots of theater (everything from neighborhood to broadway and the west-end. This theater is special and the performance (conviction) was excellent. If you come to Ventura or if you live in Ventura, this theater will become habit forming after the first experience. The Rubicon is a terrific reason to visit Ventura. Can't wait to return and see another show!
When we moved from L.A. to Ventura County in 2001, I truly missed the variety of good plays that you could find in LA. When I discovered the Rubicon Theatre in Ventura, I was so happy. Here was a small theater with the talent and overall quality that I found in the best small theaters of L. A. Moreover, they regularly include new plays--several that have gone on to New York. The Rubicon has won many awards for its productions, competing against large and small theaters in Southern California. I have now been a season subscriber for over 10 years. It is a bargain compared to what I used to pay in L.A. for a comparable production. With only a few exceptions, the Rubicon has delivered top-notch professional performances that are entertaining and often thought-provoking. Being in an old converted church only adds to the charm.
It is a pleasure to be able to go to a well performed play locally. This theater is a gem. Every seat is great since it is so small. The sets are creatively done and the quality of the acting is amazing. This is not amateur hour.
Every time I go to Ventura, I spend most of my time at Rubicon Theatre Company. I wrote a review on this theatre last year, but wanted to write a second one. I have been to theatres in New York, London, Paris, Chicago, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Wilmington, Aspen and Cleveland - among others, and this theatre ranks with and above any and all of them. As I said in my first review, "I live 3000 away from this jewel of a theatre, and still get there - usually once to twice a year. I have told them if I could pick the theatre up and put RTC in my backyard, it would already be there! Top notch theatre, at barely a fraction of Broadway prices, beautiful atmosphere, many eateries very nearby, amazing performances, wonderful people, and, best of all, it's very family-like and homey." On this visit I saw "A Moon For The Misbegotten", and it was one of the most beautifully performed productions I have ever seen anywhere. I have read some of the more recent reviews here, and can only think that perhaps some of these people were there on an off night, because RTC NEVER disappoints me. True, the balcony is not directly facing the stage, but there are other benefits you get when you sit there, and it's one of many seating options available. As a subscriber you have very easy ticket exchange privileges, with no fees involved (regardless of the performance ticket price - and for me, this is the only theatre I've found that doesn't charge for an exchange into a more expensive performance), and if I lived nearby there would be NO HESITATION in my getting a subscription. I have never seen a more cutting-edge, consistently high quality, brilliant theatre ANYWHERE. Go AND VISIT!!! My home away from home!
For a small town theatre, the Rubicon consistently presents quality theatre. I am always amazed at the talent of both the well known award winning actors and the local yet to be known actors. I have seen one women shows, musicals, dramas, and comedies here--after every single one I have walked away more excited than ever about live theatre.
The Rubicon has a history of providing excellent theater in an intimate setting. The variety of plays, the high caliber of the performers, the closeness to the actors, the drama and the comedies -- the experience is always great.
The Rubicon is a former church so the theater is small. This gives the audience, all of them, an excellent seat. The theater draws from local talent and from LA stars such as Bonnie Franklin, the Zimbalists, etc. You will see stage and TV actors you know along side very good professionals from the area. The plays vary from traditional to very avant garde. We have enjoyed musicals, Shakespeare to comedy. You really cannot go wrong. Parking is on the street and you may have to walk a few blocks. One men's room and one lady's room makes for long lines but everyone is friendly. Who knows you may end up in line with Martin Sheen! They usually have a few snacks and drinks at intermission. But you really go for the play. You are so close you have to be involved. When we saw Fiddler on The Roof and others, the actors were literally by our side. Wonderful.
WOW! Can't believe it took us so long to learn about this theater. It is a charming building. The theater is maintained quite well. Seats are comfortable and there is not a bad seat in the house, however the balcony is not quite as good as the main floor. Parking is on the street, no meters in this area. For a reasonable ticket price, we sat third row center. Love, Loss and What I Wore had an incredible cast of ladies - very talented, lots of laughter. The play is IDENTIFIABLE to any woman of any age, and my man got it too! Stage management etc. all deserve kudos. What a wonderful find in Ventura. As I said, can't believe it took us so long to learn about this theater company. We will return in the future. It is such a nice drive from Thousand Oaks, and several good dining options pre or post performance. This is a comfortable, great place for theater lovers. Thank you to all involved in this delightful theater.
