Quarry Lakes is a great place to take the family and walk, ride your bike, canoe, walk the dog, or just ole fashion picnic. Plenty of parking and very family friendly.
This has always been one of our go to spots when having family parties during the summer time! You do need to pay $5 at the gate but besides that it's great! A nice view of the lake and green grass everywhere and trees to bring the breeze in! There are also BBQ grills perfect for the occasions when you are there for the summer. I know that you can also fish at the lake and do other water activities. Great place to bring family and one of Fremont's nice get together places.
We recently moved out of State - and miss Quarry Lakes like nothing else. The two major lakes are the perfect circumference for a 3 mile or 1.5 mile stroll or hike or jog respectively. We used to go "walgging" (cross of walking and jogging) with our dogs just about every day, enjoying fabulous views of the foothills and occasional encouters of those majestic white Pelicans, Blue Herons, and other wildlife - even deer. The park is clean and feels very safe. The only persistent problem is the abundance of Canada geese, leaving "landmines" all over the place. We stopped by the ranger booth recently and were told there is a new method to curtail the number of geese - the jury is still out on that one though. Park staff is doing it's best to clean up walkways, but the lawns are to be considered a big caveat. I recommend buying an annual pass - to include your dog. It's worth it to support this wonderful addition to our Regional Park system.
We often frequent here for either a hike, bike ride or fishing. Unfortunately the fishing is hit and miss. We often miss. But others next to us seem to hit pretty good. Nice, fairly quiet and even though you are in Fremont it doesn't feel like you are.
Quarry Lakes is a nice regional recreation area in Fremont. It has a number of lakes. Its a nice place for fishing, swimming, walking, and picnics. There is a volleyball area as well. There is a $5.00 per car admission charge. Quary Lakes Regional Park can also be seen if riding bart to/from the Fremont Area Bart Station (of those who are wondering what those lakes outside the Bart windows are).
My main purpose for going was to fish. Nice surroundings and friendly atmosphere. For the numerous times I have gone I've experienced about a 50% success rate. It's more fun to go home with fish than it is to be skunked. I have also been here for large and small group picnics. The roped off swimming area an outdoor showers are great. Boating is among one of the other things that is allowed. There are fees to use the facilities and I would recommend phoning to get an overview of charges..
Gravel was taken from these quarries in the mid-19th century for the construction of the transcontinental railroad's western section. The quarries were re-purposed and filled with diverted water from Alameda Creek by the Alameda County Water District.Swimming, Fishing, Picnicking, Boating, Hiking, Biking.A bay area gem. My hubby and I walked the easy Old Creek Trail which took us around the perimeter of the three lakes. the park doesn't have much in old growth trees -- so not a lot of shade. A beautiful spot to picnic, but expect to bring everything in with you -- the only food for purchase is from the vending machine near the restrooms by the swimming beach.
