What a great idea...Tasty beers (handcrafted) and a great setting for the whole family. Doggies too!! We were there for a pre-wedding party and it was super. It is a very casual setting with plenty of room to goof around playing "texas horseshoes" (with bean bags), disc golf (we could only find 4 of the 9 holes - a little better signage would be helpful as the course gets a little more play), and great big lawn and picnic area.
We stop here regularly when we're in the area. Great beer, friendly owners and lots of nice, rustic outdoor seating under the pines. It can get crowded on the weekends!
We found this during a weekend in Graeagle. We showed up around 5:45p, sat in the Adirondack chairs, did a sampler, and enjoyed the air. We were ready to leave around 7:30....long before they were going to kick us out!Kids were playing on slack lines, families were BBQing, dogs were happily roaming about. While all kids are welcome, a van of teenagers did show up while we were there and that was odd. This is for families and adults...not a place for teens to just hang. It IS like a bar.The patio is gorgeous, the grass area is to die for. The tall trees keep it shady so bring a sweater. There's no food, but you're encouraged to bring your own!The beer is good! Try it all! They accept credit cards and cash! They sell the most beautiful bells--we got one as a thank you for my mom who kept the baby during our trip. We're already planning a day-trip where we grab food in Graeagle and head to the Lair for the day. Perfection. This place just FEELS good! Can be tricky to see the sign--from Portola, if you get to the Graeagle turnoff, you've gone too far. Keep an eye out on the north side of the road for an A-frame sign with a "spy". Turn.As the website says "if the rope's down, come on up!"
We were very pleasantly surprised by this place. Given the fairly remote location I would have happily given these guys a pass if the beer had been just ok but it was very good! They would easily compete with other craft breweries in more populous areas. Playing disc golf on their course and sitting on their lawn was a fun way to spend an afternoon. We were actually so impressed by the whole operation that we went back the next day with more friends. It's a great addition to the area and we look forward to visiting again during our annual Lakes Basin trip!
We come up here every time we go to Graeagle. Very nice, knowledgeable owners, Great beer, nice variety. Can get cold up there, although the fire pit is a very nice touch. Definitely worth the drive up there.
Rich brews up some of most intense hops infused ales in existence, from IPAs to Porters! He also creates a number of golden and amber brews. The ambience is superb, no burgers, no bar no noise, just a lawn, trees and a picnic table. Of course there is a state of the art brewing facility in a beautiful building but no junk what so ever! You can have a pint or take a growler!
Due to the strength of the reviews on TA and my love for craft beer my wife and decided to stop in this little brewery to do some tasting. None of the owners were around and it seemed as though they had a friend covering for them. The gentlemen was very amiable and willing to take us through their offerings, but it didn't seem as though he had a complete understanding of the art of brewing. Although we enjoyed the beers we tasted there really wasn't any that blew me away.I bought one of their IPA's and we sat out back at one of the tables with some other folks to watch the sun set. Very enjoyable visit.
Fun place to grab a beer in a great wood setting. We met some very friendly folks whle enjoying some great beer. (careful, it is strong beer)
We found this great place after a server at Gumbas Pizza place in Blairsden (great, too!) told us it was basically across the road. I actually had one of their beers with the pizza, and asked where it was from!Anyway, Undercover is up a dirt road, and we went a total of three times during our stay. The last day we took our own picnic lunch, and enjoyed the day, surroundings, and of course the beer! I am not a beer junkie, but my husband loved their IPA!We will definitely go back on our next trip to this area.
Found this great brewery from a local business referral. We camp nearby several times a year and thought this would be a fun place to visit. All I can say is WOW, normally small local breweries don't measure up to larger beers. This place is awesome!! A must try if you are in the area!!
Set back off the road near Graeagle, CA, this fun, outdoor setting lends a woodsy flair to some really good ale. We met lots of friendly people who all appeared to be enjoying their beer. The seating is outdoors and there's no food, but no one seemed to mind. I recommend either of their two IPA's if you're a hophead like me, but all their beer is good. Enjoy!
