Gorgeous place. Others have written about the harrowing drive, but it's just a 2-lane road that goes up a hill. Big deal. The views of Clear Lake on the way are breathtaking, and when you crest the top, you're in a lovely valley. Traveling 3 miles on a 2-lane road doesn't strike me as particularly taxing, but then again, I know how to drive. Arriving at Brassfield is a real treat. The grounds are absolutely spectacular. The staff is knowledgeable and wonderfully friendly and accommodating. We arrived just for wine tasting, but after schmoozing with the staff for a while, we ended up buying a relatively expensive munchies tray that looked dinky, but was about all the two of us could eat. We took the wine and our tray out to the covered picnic tables on the grounds, and the staff turned on some lovely 1950's music. We ended up dancing the afternoon away, being the only ones there at the time. Other people came and went as we enjoyed our day, and even took pictures of the old folks dancing to a Sinatra croon. An absolutely wonderful, memorable experience.
Brassfield Winery is a must stop while at Clear Lake and Lake County. The Winery is done very nicely and the winemaker has really done a nice job on the wines. Great grounds and great wine... A very good combination!!
I love this winery. It is 3 miles back off the main highway . Nice scenery on the drive. Beautiful grounds. Many events during the year. Wine caves built into the hillside behind the main building. AWESOME wines
The approximate 3 mile drive up to the winery can be a bit of a thrill. It is a two-lane road, but is not in the best shape, and steep and narrow in spots. I elected not to partake in a wine tasting, as I wanted to be "alert" while driving back to the main highway. The grounds alone, however, are well worth the drive. There is a peacefulness and serenity to the entire property, punctuated by statutes of St. Francis, deer, and fawns in lovely gardens. I hope to have the opportunity to return and enjoy a wine tasting (!) and the property.
a steep, winding road eventually gets you to this jewel in the meadows above Clear Lake. The wines were definitely good, and they offer a cheese plate (for additional fee) so you can take your wine by the glass out onto the grounds for a picnic. But the real treat was the view. The driveway is lined with trees that frame the front aspect of the winery beautifully. There are lots of realistic nearly life size statues of deer and a beautiful larger than life statue of St Francis caring for some of these animals. There is lots of art inside and outside the tasting room and they have a printed sheet to help you take a self-guided tour of the grounds. The garden paths are easy to walk on since they are make of hard packed dirt and finely crushed gravel. If we had known before driving up, we would have packed a picnic lunch for the children. Next time!
Outstanding wines, especially the white Serenity and the red Eruption, both blends and worthy of savoring. On our first visit, we were in awe of the tasting 'mansion' and the gardens. We've been back several times since then have enjoyed a fire in the pavilion while solving the world's problems over a couple of bottles. It's an easy drive from Rte. 20, Clearlake Oaks, about 10 minutes with some incredible views coming and going.
While the drive up and into the 1800 foot elevation winery was a bit of a challenge, the reward was a look at one of the most beautiful wineries in Northern California with wine's to match. Fountains, gardens and a massive giant Oak tree were surrounded by covered picinic benches. From the grass parking lot to the beautiful Spanish style buildings brass wildlife seemed to spring up in the most natural of settings. The tasting room was filled with antiques and art. This is a must stop to cap off a wine trip around Clearlake.
Besides having wonderful wines, this place is a marvel of reuse of building materials. Old fountain from Hollywood era, chandelier from the B of A building in San Francisco, etc, etc. Nice venue for a party.
Beautiful scenery, great wine, and great friends. Enjoyed a beautiful sunny afternoon tasting wonderful wine. Brassfield staff members were very helpful, and the wine is some of the best we tasted in Northern California.
We were so impressed with their white blend they call Serenity when we tried it at a Lake County restaurant that we decided to visit the winery. We were totally unprepared for what we discovered at the end of a beautiful road that traverses a gorgeous bowl shaped valley above Clearlake Oaks. So first, the wines are exceptional, the staff friendly very knowledgable and eager to answer any and all questions, and the buildings and grounds gorgeous. Some of the wines are a little pricey, but the tasting fee is only $5.00, and if you enjoy well made drinkable wine I bet you will recognize the value. This is a little treasure of a spot that one can easily miss, I hope you don't. Take a picnic and enjoy the grounds. One suggestion, they have a calendar of events for their Wine Club members. On those days I imagine the place can be a bit crowded so you might want to keep that in mind when deciding when to go.
Big fruit, not soo sweet, try their Eruption and Malbec.Bob & Jan Thank you for your hospitality. The property isspectacular, allow at least 1/2 hour to visit!
Beautiful building and interior. Friendly and helpful staff. Wine was so good we joined their club! Lots of excellent artwork displayed too.
The wines are wonderful but the big plus here is the location and the castle like buildings. There is so much attention to detail that it is well worth the drive here.
This winery should be in Napa. It doesn't seem to fit the Lake county lifestyle, but it is truly a stunning winery that is a must see when you are in Lake County.
One of the larger wineries (in this county fo small boutique wineries); lovely estate grounds. Try to get a tour; it's worth it. Wines were very good also.
