You can drive through the dam. the road on the dam is so narrow and you will get confused whether to drive or to walk. You can drive to the other end to enjoy the beauty of the dam or for a bout tour.Wondering why this beautiful attraction which is listed as #1 in North Cascades has least number of reviews comparing to others. This is a massive structure which stands almost 400' above the Skagit River and holds back Diablo Lake. When you drive across this dam you are struck by how large Diablo Lake is on one side and the expanse of thin air on the other. The waters of Diablo are bright green due to the depth of the lake and that it is fed by streams of melted snow. If you are lucky enough to be there when they open the spillways you will be blown away by the unbelievable power and beauty. Be sure to bring a picnic lunch or dinner to enjoy along the shore with majestic views of the dam, lake and surrounding mountains, especially Ruby Mountain.
