It has really neat buildings they moved to the museum! It had a lot of old items, however it was a little cluttered. Neat tho!
17 miles south of I80 in the south central town of Holdrege, Nebraska is a treasure worth seeing. Everything about this gem of a museum will have you glad you took the time to visit. Believe me you will not be disappointed!
This one Awesome Museum!!!! A great place to learn some history about local surroundings, If you like military history this is a must see!!!!
The Nebraska Prairie Museum in Holdrege, Nebraska is an outstanding museum. The exhibits and artifacts are beautifully presented. The collection of artifacts and historical items are from the local area - Phelps County, Nebraska. The museum offers a wonderful - and very extensive - presentation of the local history from about 1870 to the present day of the central Nebraska region in a very detailed and informative manner. The Atlanta, Nebraska WWII POW exhibit is outstanding. The Nebraska Prairie Museum offers a wonderful glimpse of the local history of the region.Well worth the side trip off the Interstate - I-80. The Museum is 16 miles south of I-80 on US Route 183. Highly recommend !
The museum has collections from sports to china figurines to license plates and model airplanes to spoons; almost everything one would need and use on the prairie. Plus...a WWII German POW interpretive center. Seems there was a rather large POW camp here in the middle of Nebraska.
The Nebraska Prairie Museum in Holdrege is an excellent museum. It has 65,000 sq. ft. of display space and it's filled with well maintained artifacts. They have replica streets with shops and offices that look like an old downtown street. It's not far off Interstate 80 and it's worth the trip.
Who knew that in the middle of Nebraska there was a POW camp ! How interesting and informative. So much bigger inside than it looks on the outside. The history of that town and the connection to Sweden- Amazing! Who knew the King of Sweden would come to visit! Plenty to do and see for all ages. His worth your time.
Wow!! We were surprised at how much history can be found in this museum. They have separate rooms dedicated to different historical events. Did you know that during WWII there was a large prisoner of war camp for German soldiers.
We really enjoy pioneer museums and this was a fantasic one. The have a large collection of items that are displayed well. There is a church, school house and a home that can be toured in addition to a large building of items. We liked that we could touch many items. We spent 3 hours and could have spent more. To make things eve better, it only cost $5.
A huge representation of historical prairie life, including many dioramas of different time periods. We never realized that there was was a German POW camp in Nebraska during WW II.
