We had a business function here in a space called the Attic on a Friday night. The room was great, quite large and since it was on the third floor, private and removed enough from the public bar/restaurant on the first floor. My wife said the ladies restroom on the first floor (there are none on the third) was a disaster, dirty and paper all over the floor both times she used it.We had our food catered by McMenamin's and as usual with this company, the location and local beer was great but the food was decidedly average. I guess their formula is working for them but it would be so great if every single time I went to one of their properties the food didn't disappoint.

This is the coolest place in the Portland Metro and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. It's a resort with 6 different bars on-site that is locally-owned. They brew beer, make wine, and distill spirits on-site and offer tours of all three facilities each weekday afternoon. I highly recommend the tours. This is an excellent place to come and drink or see a world-class concert, even if you aren't staying at the hotel. Just come see it!

Besides an extensive garden, there is a vineyard, orchard and small golf course. The McMenamins collection of sites are all historic locations that have been lovingly reclaimed and remodeled for current enjoyment. Edgefield was originally a poor farm the history and pictures are well depicted and displayed throughout the public areas. The painting of the pipes, walls, woodwork hides delightful faces and tidbits of a very creative imagination. I was a young nursing student assigned to this site many years ago and can imagine the rockers on the large porch being filled with the elderly. This is a working lodge and can be very crowded at times with guests and conferences but the property is big enough to accommodate many.

These folks serve good food. The restaurant and the surrounding facility is great fun. The service can be spotty.

We really enjoy staying here, especially celebrating a holiday. We did find one night was enough as we could enjoy all they had in that time. The salt water spa was great and the greyhounds were very yummy as they use fresh squeezed grapefruit!!!!

Oh, gosh, how lucky us Portlanders feel that the McMenamin Brothers decided to resurrect our old schools and buildings. This one was the county poorhouse. It's a huge facility -- a hotel, a spa (outdoor hot tub!), at least a couple of restaurants, and several pubs. BUT come here to see Portland artists who have decorated every square inch in art (much of it of real people who lived there) -- AND the vast gardens with lovely, lush plantings. Wander the property, maybe even get lost. (You've got a cell phone to be guided back.) Really a unique Portland experience.

One of my favorite places to enjoy time with friends. The service is usually always lacking but you can't beat the location. Love being able to walk around the grounds with my favorite drink in hand and food is usually really good too

Stopped for late lunch while traveling in the area. Black Rabbit Restaurant did not disappoint. Had salads and wine. Salad wad fresh and delicious and a feast to the eye as well. Service was not quick, but was friendly and professional. Enjoyed the historic aura of the building, especially the art, quirky and otherwise. Well worth the visit.

We saw a concert here this summer, and it was such a special night. The sound was great, the crowd happy, and the deep blue sky tinged with sunset pink and orange was spectacular. You can take your low profile chairs and save a place in line, then go to the main building and get a beer or wine and sit on the porch in a cozy corner and await the opening of the venue, or stroll the grounds and find a spot to sit in the grass. The actual concert venue is within a central garden area which is cordoned off until about 45 minutes before the show. Check with the helpful security staff to know when you should come back to wait with your chair. Once the open the venue, if you aren't there, your stuff just gets walked around. But there are plenty of good places on the lawn to listen and see the concert.

We had dinner in the restaurant; the food was average, the decor was interesting. The grounds went on & on... there was a concert the night we were there so lots of folks wandering about, but still there was plenty of parking. Nice place.

A family friend took me here to see the grounds one evening the week I was in Portland. The estate has a wonderful historical story behind it and, thank God, The McMenamin brothers rescued it from demolition. We watched some glass Christmas ornaments being blown, enjoyed some of their own microbrewery beer and ate supper on the patio at their restaurant. Everything about this place is unique from the painted murals on the hotel walls to the selection of food and drinks. I would recommend Edgefield for anyone who likes history, beer, food or to just relax.

This place is owned and operated by McMenamins bar/restaurant and it doesn't disappoint. We visited for lunch and a couple beers which is their typical food they have at their other locations but the history here is pretty neat. I love how McMenamins likes to keep as much originality and character as possible. There's something to see in every corner around the grounds. I noticed a wedding going on which I find a beautiful place to be held. There's also big name concerts regularly scheduled. It's also a hotel which we plan on doing at some point.

Had a great experience here. Beautiful secluded grounds. Great craft beer and wine. Really good food. The only reason that I didn't rank it as excellent, is the accomodations. I would have chosen a room with a restroom inside it if it had been available. Those are few and far between. I can imagine that during really warm weather, it would be impossible to sleep there. I know that they are trying to do something about this, but it would be simple enough to offer portable room air conditions, that roll in and out of the rooms to eliminate this problem. We rented three rooms. All three of the rooms were in need of a good cleaning. It is one thing to be old and historic and a little rough around the edges. This should create a essance of historic charm and eclectic interest. The artwork and attention to detail in some of the facilities areas are outstanding. The fans in each room were very dirty full of hanging dirt and hair. The antique furniture in our room were very dusty/dirty and needed attention. The floors around the edges of the room were dirty and needed to be cleaned..The restrooms/shower areas smelled clean, but the rooms were extremely musty. For now..I would stay at the Best Western and visit McMenamins. It could be so much better with a little elbow grease and cool air.

McMenamins always does it right but this is by far the best of their restaurants. The grounds are impeccable, if not a bit confusing since there is more than one restaurant there. Again, the McMenamins do it right. There is also lodging there, rooms for special occasions, which my friends and I have rented and again, perfection. There is just so much to say about this restaurant/bar/lodging/grounds...well, I think you get the drift. Go there is you're able.

Went here to see a small act play in the winery room. Walked all around the grounds and buildings. Quite an amazing place, I can see why people choose to stay here. All sorts of food and drink and entertainment options. Friendly staff and great history at this place.
