lake alma state park

Recently stayed over Memorial Day. It was packed for the 3 day weekend, but we stayed for 9 nights! We were pretty much alone after the weekend crowd rolled out. The trails are great, beautiful trees and a large lake with a small beach! Free firewood! I tent camped w/electric hook-up. Small creek behind the site, full shade, but some sun. Sites 18, 19, 34 and 22 are the best (in my opinion). There is access to the island in the middle of the lake by foot. Movies for the family every Saturday night. Showers are slated to be put in 2014/2015, so if you go before then, make sure you have a solar shower! Water stations available. Pit latrines. Beautiful wooded trails. Pet friendly! There is even an area for the fur kids to swim! Lots of picnic tables throughout park and trails. Picninc table and fire pit ring at each site. Saw deer, chipmunks, feral cats (a couple, not a crazy amount), heard coyotes at night, and owls. The bugs were not bad at the time we went and neither were the racoons! Very affordable. Park rangers and state troopers were always rolling through to check on my safety (as I was the only one in the park camping after the weekend). Town of Wellston is 1.5 miles away, where you can pick up gas, food, ice, etc. I really enjoyed getting away at this park and will be back!
