Conveniently located near "At Boulders Edge" accommodations.Several interesting trails and the natural bridge is a must see.
Located behind Harvest Moon Cottages. Requires a permit, but well worth it! Great hiking area with interesting outcroppings and the caves are beautiful.
Long hike but the bridge is beautiful! Not to be missed when visiting Hocking Hills! The second part of the trail leads to the Rock Shelter and it is also worth the hike!
We accessed Rockbridge from our lodging accommodations, At Boulders Edge. It was a pretty easy journey, although I recommend bringing some water and a hiking stick if you've got one. The bugs on the trail weren't too bad. The only thing that could have improved the visit was if it had rained recently so we could have seen the "waterfall" effect. Other than that, it was still great and we would definitnely go back.
The walk to the site is a tough one. You actually hike thru a cow field (there is a path with walkways) and through the countryside before you get to the woods. The trail through the woods is up a pretty steep hill that is rutted with tree roots and stones. There are benches along the way to rest and while we are in pretty good shape, we did take advantage of them. When we reached the Rockbridge and took our pictures, we continued on with what we thought was the path loop. It led down to the water where people in canoes were beaching and walking a two minute walk to the bridge. Wish I had known this and I would have gone the canoe route. We turned around and followed the path back up and down the killer hill and through the fields.Worth seeing for sure but be prepared for a really tough hike to this site. TAKE WATER.
We did all the trails at this nature preserve and saw the Rock Bridge as well as the Rock Shelter. On hot days - bring water with you as they are longer than they look. Also check out the posting at the beginning of the trails - they do a nice job of educating you on what poison ivy looks like! This is off the beaten path of the other parks in the area and therefore is not as crowded!
Its not something awe inspiring but it gets 5 stars from me because it is very nice and enjoyable. Me and my wife actually went here with our dog in the middle of winter which added a special feature, most of the water being ice and snow everywhere. The snow and icicles added a nice touch to the pictures. Be prepared for a good hike though. We first pulled up to the spot and weren't quite sure if it was it because it starts off as a small path next to a fence. We followed the path deeper into the woods and I would say after about 45 minutes to an hour we were there. I would definitely recommend going here if your planing a trip to hocking hills or are in the area.
I visited soaring cliffs on 7 3 2014 ,the first time to zip line and found it to be an awesome experience.shaggy, tim and waldo were very professional and made my time there very enjoyable. safety was their top priority and they explained all aspects of the tour prior to the start of the hike.they were very informative during the hike sharing information about the site and the plants trees etc.i would recommend this to anyone who enjoys the out doors.
Be prepared to walk a good distance before you see anything really interesting like the actual rock bridge, which the town of Rockbridge is named. I lived in Rockbridge for about two years before hiking this trail because people told me it wasn't a "must see",. Go if it's a nice day and you have already seen Conkles and Old Man's Cave.
Most hidden of all the trails. Most people never take this trail when in Hocking Hills, some don't even know it exists. First part of the hike is boring because about 200 yards of it is through a grass field. Parking is for about 4-5 cars but like I said its normally empty. In general the rock bridge is what it is (natural rock bridge) and its unique for Ohio. No restrooms here. No crowds.
This is a lovely little hike from At Boulder's Edge cabins. The fall colors were amazing. Make sure you do the loop on the way back by turning right on the little wooden bridge. We missed this turn and walked back the same path to and from the natural rock bridge.
this site has a natural stone arch (bridge) which was formed thousands of years ago...its about a 25 minute hike from the parking lot to the bridge, but its well worth it...walk across (its a little narrow), but it makes a good photo op...
Once we got past the idea that it felt like we were walking in someone's backyard for a while, we had a nice hike to the largest natural rock bridge in the state - at almost 100 feet long and between 10-20 feet wide. Make sure to memorize the map at the entrance to the park - there is only one sign for the bridge once you are on the trail, and you have to make a few turns on the trail before you even see it. Once we found the rock bridge, we walked across it and looked down. There were a couple of small waterfalls - probably would have been amazing if there was more rain recently. After walking around and taking some pictures, my sister noticed that someone was down below the bridge. We quickly found out that there was another part to the trail, just past the bridge, that you can use to walk below. Overall, it was a fun trip - maybe 1 mile in total. You do have to walk uphill at some points along the trail, and there are no safety guards in place on the bridge, so keep all that in mind when planning.
Rockbridge Nature Preserve was one of the things we wanted to do while we were in the area. It's the biggest rock bridge in Ohio. Getting there was an adventure. Once you get off the highway, the road narrows to one car for about a mile. Not fun going up a hill! There's a small parking area on the left side of the road. The hike is nice. The flyer said 2.75 miles, but it didn't feel like it. There are some hills in the woods, but not bad. First you start out hiking along a field. Once you get into the woods, the trail loops. We went right. The mosquitoes are very bad in the woods. Bring spray! Once we started looping around you can hear a lot of screaming & a weird whirring noise. Zip line. Very annoying when you just want a quiet hike. The bridge itself is nice, but understated. You can walk across it, but the trail doesn't go over it. It was hard for me to get a good picture. You take the loop back out of the woods & walk back to you car. Nice family hike!
