We stayed in the area for three nights, and after having a great dinner here the first night, decided to come back for another. Great food, great service.
It appears that this place caters to the under-40 crowd in the evenings and on weekends. Our Monday lunch was pretty average and the service was very slow, even with only two other tables occupied.
We loved that Grand River is tucked back from the road against the woods. It makes it seem quieter and more intimate. They have a nice deck out back and nice decor inside. We ordered a flight of wine to sample and did not care for them very much. One of the Chardonnays was not bad but other than that we were not impressed with the wine. The food however was delicious! If you are looking for nice atmosphere and great food, check this place out.
The winery is nestled back in the woods and offers some of the best wine in the area!!! The food menu is great and the staff is fantastic. They also have area bands that will get up and moving. They recently got air conditioning so when it was hot, it was great to sit inside and enjoy! I love the idea that 2 of the wines are for Autism and monies from the sale of these wines (Austin's White and Austin's Red) go to a local Autism group! The servers are great too!! Will definitely be back!!!
This winery is set back from the main road, but it is very scenic. Very rustic looking indoors and out. We've visited this winery multiple times, including the Tannenbaum Trail in December (multiple years) as well as the ice wine trail in March. When you first walk in, there's a little shop area that you can buy gifts and wine from. In the back is the seating area, which is very warm and cozy when the fireplace is on. This is a must do in the winter when it's close to Christmas and snowing outside. The wine is amazing! Have not had one bad glass of wine here. The White Fox is a favorite amongst our group of friends, a must try! The staff is very friendly here and very informative when it comes to their wines. During the ice wine trail, we got to see the lower level of the area, which is amazing! I love the wineries that you can tour and really see a different side other than just a sit down restaurant. Would love to come here in the summer months to get a different seasonal view. But definitely put this winery on your must try list when in this area! You will not regret it!
We did not eat lunch here but wish we had. Our server is a young girl who graduated from bowling green. I forget her name it was Rebecca I think. She was very attentive and pleasant. She explained wines and wine tastings. We also sampled the olive oil sampler and they baked the bread fresh for us. It was a great day and we ended up buying 6 bottles of wine there. I will definitely eat here and stop here again. You can sit indoor or outdoors. It was not busy that afternoon but it was early season.
My husband and I came here for lunch and to try the wine tasting. We've gone wine tasting in different parts of the country and abroad - that said . . . I think wine is to be enjoyed, discover what one likes or not, have fun with tasting and absolutely not to be "haughty". A person can choose from 3 - 4 variety of wine tasting. I opted for the sampler with 10 tiny (size of pee vials) plastic "cups". I think the price is too expensive for the tasting but I was told that it included a souvenir wine glass (of course, with the winery name on it). I wish wineries would stop doing this - I have too much souvenir glasses and would prefer a better tasting price.Anyway - the waitress told (or commanded) me what order I should drink / sample the 10 chosen white and red wine. I prefer to sample from sweet to dry and the waitress reacted like I was insulting the place and pretty much from her behavior that I do not know anything. Really? Is this how you should treat a paying customer? And since this winery just gives a little sheet of paper to read - well really . . . Too smug and the wine in this winery is expensive (avg $15 bottle) for the average wine it makes, both white and red. Needless to say, I was turned off but tried to enjoy my wine tasting and yes, it was just fine the order of sweet to dry!The food by the way - also good/ average. Service - needs work on customer service!!
Their wine was very good. The Muddy Paws was our favorite and a portion of the proceeds go to the local humane society which makes it even better. Our waitress was delightful. Highly recommend the olive oil sampler as well. Yum!
Twenty of us on a late on a Saturday night went there for dinner and entertainment. The service and food were both very good. The entertainment was a band by the name of Motown Isls and Co. The band was good except it really loud. If I was 30 yrs younger I would have thought the volume of the bvand was just right.
We were excited to go to what appeared to be an upscale winery that had actual dinner food instead of just flatbread pizza. Well there was a band and it was crowded and it's the middle of November so we were excited to try the food and listen to the Motown band IsIs and Co.The salads came out on plastic plates that looked to be glass upon first glance. They weren't glass but plastic. I was hoping that the main course would be served on actual plates but they weren't either. Our waiter, JD, was very good and I didn't want to say anything that obviously he had no control over. My porkchop was a little over cooked but great otherwise. Potatoes were absolutely disgusting. They tasted like instant potatoes that had sat on a steam table all day long and the same with the "carribbean" vegetables. I took a picture of the ice wine, we had to try it, and lemoncello cake. It was good. Wine was way too sweet for me and my honey but enjoyed the novelty of it. Bottom line-should have went somewhere that had better reviews. That's why I'm sharing with you.
We went there once, had a nice time; they had a live band, reasonable food. The 2nd time, the tables were stuffed side by side, we had a large party and were put in the walkway where we kept getting tagged by the wait staff. It was so loud, so crowded, and noisy, we couldn't hear each other talk. This was after waiting quite a while for them to fill our reservation. I opted not to go back the last few times I've visited.
This Winery is almost a stones throw from its Sister winery, Chalet Debonne. When you visit either of them..why not make a stop at the other one?! Grand River Winery is in a beautiful secluded location back from the road. The outdoor Patio Is great and the indoor bars along with the cozy fireplace is very inviting. We definitely recommend stopping here.
My wife, son, daughter-in-law and I visited this spot on Sunday, September 1. It was recommended by a friend who said they have good food and wine. Our group had a red and white wine sampling and a antipasto tray. The food was good -- the wine left a bit to be desired. We are not wine aficionadoes but the four of us each found it difficult to find a drinkable wine. The service was prompt and friendly and we sat on the patio. We'll come again for the fun.
Grand river cellars is an attractive winery nestled among trees and vineyards. That's the plus side. My first visit was a annual meeting for an organization, and the food and service appeared quite good. The wine was okay.... Not great but not bad. Since then I have returned with some friends for wine and appetizers. We sat on the patio. The service was bad so we moved on to a different winery. Then I went back with my husband. We were seated by the maitre d' and then completely ignored. No server, no menus, nothing! Staff passed all around but never seemed to notice two people just sitting there. Newer customers on both sides were getting served food and drinks. First we tried to get someone's attention, to no avail. Then it became a joke to see how we could sit there. Finally we just left. Won't go back.
There are many wineries in the Geneva area, but only a few that are special. Grand River is one of them. Food and service are outstanding, and the tasting room and patio are beautiful. All that said the wine would be notable if you were drinking it out of solo cups in a garage, it is that good.
