When word gets out about this new winery that just recently opened in the old Baltic Mill, it will really take off.We talked to the owners, Dan and Judy Garver, who said they will be booking local entertainment on Saturday night's. Tonight Linda entertained us with her violin and vocals. The wines we tasted were good. We bought a bottle of Little Daisy...a sweet white wine. The atmosphere is rustic, with exposed brick, beams and an old wood floor. The Garvers make the wine in the basement and have worked hard to transform the former Baltic Mills Bulk Foods store into the ideal backdrop for a winery. We'll certainly be back!
Once in a while, when you think you've gotten to know everything about a given wine trail and don't think there's anything interesting left to see you find something incredible! We were traveling south on 93 and found in the middle of a "one horse" town the coolest winery we've seen in years! Just open one week and hidden in an old flour mill, with only 5 wines but all worthy of trying would be enough to make it worth the stop. We took home 6 bottles of their Rosso Del Baltico as we are into drys, but the Chardonnay is worthy of noting and if not to my better halfs aversion to Chardonnay I would have brought that one home too!THEN, when they let us explore the building we discovered an intact flour mill dating back to the 19th century, complete with the wooden sifter machines, grinders, leather belt drive system, a steam engine, and boiler! Albeit not functional its all there, and in the brick building with rough hewn wood beams made me want to explore all day!!
