This place is excellent...a little small, but mighty. Children will love this place because it's all hands-on! They also have special educational sessions that kids can sign up for...ALL FREE!!!! When the weather is nice, you can take a nice hike on a few trails right outside their doors. HIGHLY recommended for everyone!
A great interactive spot to learn about nature. Beautiful gardens and nature trails. There are small local concerts held there in the summer months.
My wife and I took our grandson here, who is only 2. He loved every minute he was here. Lots to see and do. We'll diffidently take him back again, I'm sure he'll enjoy this as he gets older. Lots of educational things to look at and learn. Staff is very helpful and the place is very clean. Don't be afraid to let your toddler roam around.
The Nature Realm is a very peaceful and beautiful place to walk or go for a jog on the paths. At any given time you can view the animals in their natural habitat. I have seen deer, chipmunks, many birds, and fish here. The sights are breath taking at times. The fall foliage is amazing to look at. It is a great place to take the family for a stroll or just a picnic. This is a must see on a nice day!
We have frequented the Nature Real for hiking, educational activities, and relaxation for over 3 years now. It is ALWAYS clean, well maintained, and bursting with activity both inside and around the park/trails. They offer numerous events every month, but sign up early, as space cancel quickly! This is certainly one of the best family/nature attractions in the greater-Akron area.
What a great place to visit, trails to hike and displays inside. Take a seat and watch the birds feed through a large glass window.
It was great seeing the historic place of the first meeting of Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob. Henrietta Seiberling was a wonderful woman.
What better way to spend the day than going on a nature hike? The trails are nice and easy and the sites are breathtaking!
What a great place for all ages. Fun programs for kids of all ages about nature also for adults. Great store inside with nature books, all kinds of nature items and information about the metor parks. The park grounds are beautiful and also great trails. So much there you just need to go and see!
Yes, it's a long walk to the Visitor Center, but isn't that part of the point of going there...to walk or hike in nature? Still, with all the changes there, they might have thought better about that, hence, the 4 star rating. The Nature Realm (thank goodness they finally separated the words as it confused everyone and I was sick of pronouncing the word for them;-D ) has always been one of my favorite Metro Parks. The proximity to me notwithstanding, it's got several great hikes of varying lengths to suit my needs and desires of the moment. The amount of benches for those who wish to sit a spell and absorb nature is fantastic. The updated gardens are beautiful as well. It's one of our (Summit County) jewels and well worth the excursion.
My favorite part is feeding the birds by hand. I have fed chickadees at home but not the cluster like you get here. There is a great trail that goes to the bottom of Smith hill and I used to have to carry my daughter up the hill on the return. It is a great place for a small outing or a picnic. I always like getting back to nature and this is one of many places in the Akron area to do just that.
I'm 40 and my mom and I almost always visit the Nature Realm when we're in the area. The grounds are beautiful, with a wonderful garden and a few nice hiking paths. The building houses some fun critters and a great bird-watching area. The staff are always kind and helpful...we just love it!Tip: especially in the winter, bring some seeds (I think we bring black sunflower seeds) to hand-feed the chickadees. It's a fun experience for all ages! You only need to walk a bit up the path from the building and you'll find a good spot where they'll flock to your hand and feast.
gift shop is GREAT especially when the sale is on! Park brings close to animals...feed the birds by hand, see the deer, check out the pond. chipmunks everywhere.. handicap accessible, picnic tables....beautiful, just beautiful
I have been coming here since I was a kid - it is a much beloved and special place. The nature center is so fantastic. They just recently updated some of their displays and the are fabulous - a wonderful look into the history of our area. The trails are excellent and vary.
Wonderful place to take the family, friends, small children, people of all abilities, can enjoy this park.. You can take a walk through the Herb Garden, and visit the pond there, talk a walk on any of the great trails, visit the lake, don't miss the visitors center. This is a wonderful, educational place for the family. They have many great programs for the family, even programs for the home schooling families. If you love nature, you will surely love this park! Best of all it's FREE!
